I think we should define that when the blockers are fixed we are fine for a
beta. We an still fix issues there.

I have collected over 20 issues on jira that focusing on crash, memory leaks
and other fatal things.
Not to speak of our hideous hash tag issue.

Maybe we could create a debug build so we can better hunt issues. Maybe we
could create comparable extended crash reports. It is easier to learn to
collect data then to fix issues. And if we can distribute research work, maybe
developers are faster fixing.

What do you think?

Writer worked correctly for me, generating new files and editing exiting files.

My Calc use is merely a simple 12 sheet file, with 31 lines on each sheet, and
simple arithmetic, so that is not a valid test.

I was able to make and edit a 100 slide Impress file, complete with Notes, and
later minimise it. Insertion of video clips did not work, but I didn't need
them.

I had some little instability with Impress, but tracked it down to
LanguageTool, which I would turn off for Impress editing.

As soon as Jim has new builds I'll try out the DEB 64.

I tested that build as well under Ubuntu 18.04.3 x64 but I get too many errors
(compared to 4.1.7) so I'm hoping this was a bad one and that a more recent
build will be better :)

I can't answer that, but the 4.2.0 version I used until changing to 4.1.7, for
better compatibility with Forum users, was the May 22 version. I used the DEB
64, running on Xubuntu 18.04.02 and later .03.

I believe it is about time for a Beta 1 build

One question: are there any 4.2.0 Linux binaries available more recent than
those from the Buildbot (22nd May)?

That's true, but that's not a meaningful yardstick, because LO's release cycles
don't meet practical requirements.

First we should try to fix the release blocker

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127731
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=128094

We think Issue 127731 and 128094 have a similar reason.

Kind regards

I used an earlier A00-4.2.0 for daily use and it worked OK for my
writing/editing.

I would encourage release of an A00-4.2.0 if only for psychological reasons -
the numbering of LibreOffice versions is outpacing that of AOO, and progression
to 4.2.0 would indicate continuing activity on the part of AOO.
