Exactly, Apache OpenOffice is all volunteers and people who have ideas should
expect to help do the work.

Only the Blue Orb icon (or Logo) is part of the trademark. Icons for Writer or
any other modules as well as icons for the toolbars are not included in the
trademark and can be changed.

This is not a restriction to our freedom but a way to guarantee that even
though anyone can use the freely available source code, they can not
commercialize or offer a product named OpenOffice or use the same Logo
In any case it is not Apache that restricts our freedom ;)

Thank you for volunteering to contribute! I hope these small legal quirks do
not demotivate you!

For clarification: The decision is made on this list. And we decide
together. That is the way.

The Apache Foundation is the body that enables us and stewards this project.

I recommend to start of with one icon. And then discuss that. This will
give us an impression on what your taste and skill is and you will see
the taste on the existing participants.

We have to figure a community solution that works for all involved.

I know the licenses but I don't understand why I couldn't offer Apache a
new logo.

The Apache OpenOffice Logo is part of our trademark. Trademarks are
legal documents, that provide us rights if we clash with other
companies. That are not our rules. This are the rules Companies play by.
Since a lot of people have interest in the market name OpenOffice, Logo
is nothing we can easily change. I hope you understand that this is a
difficult topic, and has nothing to do with your proposal or person. So
lets see if we can agree on the other things first. If a trademark is
running out we can have a discussion on the logo for sure. This will
happen in some years.

All the best

Peter

The source code is free. You can build it with whatever graphics you
want to use.

But you would need to find a new name for it, since you wouldn't be
allowed to call it OpenOffice.

You could change the toolbar icons, while leaving the icons identifying
the suite and the applications untouched.

But you would need to find a new name for it, since you wouldn't be

I'm not sure what you are proposing to work on.
Is it a website, logos, the office program itself, or something else?

Maybe you could start by letting us know what you propose and why.

And we're very much not dead :)

It was discussed that we at least need an additional icon set for "dark
mode". Unfortunately nobody stepped up for the work.

Maybe Corentin can do it, but I haven't seen any of his work yet.

If what you consider doing is a remake of icons and appearance, I'm sure all
would welcome this; it would be good that one could switch between one them and
another, so that the older theme was also available.

What do you define by "big updates"?

Our "big update" needs help by solving this issues:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Blocker+issues+4.2.0

We need also to look into ODF 1.3.

There are 2 Ideas for OOXML.

I have some other topics in the hand if you are more interested in
