I had a brief look at our commons cache modules (api,impl,ehcache and
portal). It seems we've never released them and I also have the feeling
that everything advertised in the api is not implemented.
As latest ehcache is available as an OSGi bundle I don't see a strong
reason to keep

It's a great point, thanks Stefan & Robert, let me look into converting the
script to Groovy. It should be relatively easy since the logic is all there
