[Test-Announce] Proposal to CANCEL: 2017-05-22 Fedora QA Meeting

2017-05-19 Thread Adam Williamson
Hi folks! I'm proposing we cancel the QA meeting on Monday. We should
mostly be focused on Beta validation now, and I don't see any major
other topics that need discussing right now. If you're aware of any,
please do reply to this mail and we can go ahead and run the meeting.

Remember, we do have the blocker review meeting at 1600 UTC!

Yes, but that does not get you signed packages, a plugin could look for
and get those.

Yeah, it would have to likely download them locally and install from there.

For f26-build it's easy.

cat >/etc/yum.repos.d/koji.repo <<"EOF"
[koji-f26-build]
name=koji-f26-build
baseurl=https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/repos/f26-build/latest/$basearch/
enabled=0
EOF

dnf --enablerepo koji-f26-build install firefox
dnf --enablerepo koji-f26-build update

etc.

But installing arbitrary builds, like Zbyszek wants, it's not that
simple since they are possibly not included in any repos at all...

I think a koji dnf plugin could be very handy, especially if it tried to
download signed packages for you (if available).

Also possibly handy:

dnf install koji f26-build firefox
(latest firefox in f26-build tag)

dnf update koji f26-build
(update any packages newer from the f26 build tag)

etc.

Of course someone would need to step up to do the work here. Until then
it's just daydreaming. ;)

I edited the original patch and it's the same as your file, only the
diff header dates are different.
I think "./waf tarball" is enough to build revision.cc.
I hope the patch will be accepted upstream
5.9 is now building in rawhide.

Have you recreated libs/ardour/revision.cc? This is necessary still
because upstream hasn't integrated the respective patch yet.

Hi,
I'm updating Ardour 5 to the latest 5.9.0 version in rawhide.

Nils, I will wait for your review to update f26 and f25, too.

Oh, that's super nice.

Randy, what about redirecting the effort to support the same for koji
builds? I think that functionality is missing and it'd be quite useful
for packagers (e.g. to test that an update will be OK before actually creating
the update):
  dnf install-koji 886677,886693
or even
  dnf install-koji package-version,package-version
?

Yeah, I just tested and this works:

$ sudo dnf upgrade --advisory FEDORA-2017-f590422f5b

See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1234930

It's my understanding this functioanlity is already being worked on in
DNF 2.0, to match the yum functionality of "sudo yum upgrade

Hello Sérgio!

I think my idea is a bit different than that - the target audience for
this plugin would be users who want to test a Bodhi update to provide
Karma, or users who want to apply only a specific update to their
system (before or after it's gone stable). It could be used for
security updates, but it could also be used to install a bugfix or even
an enhancement update.

The --security flag does sound very useful though, thanks for sharing!

Note also that these packages will increase in size as unicode standard
evolves. libidn due to IDNA2003 was tied to a specific old standard
while libunistring gets updated to the latest one thus includes much
more data than the previous ones.

I do not know whether the glibc switch from libidn to libidn2 would
provide some benefit in that aspect.

What was left out of the proposal is whether we should keep libidn in
the OS. IDNA2003 may still be in use somewhere, but even when it is, it
is via IDNA2008-transitional mode. Are there any other reasons to keep
libidn in Fedora?

We could include a libidn2 which only contains the parts of
libunistring that it needs via gnulib. That could reduce the size
significantly, at the cost of including a library as static.

My understanding of libunistring is that it is going to be widely used
for UTF conversions and internationalized string handling given that
the posix APIs in libc are terrible in that aspect. I believe it is
already widely used mostly as gnulib module (copylib).

Nikos

dnf bodhi plugin

2017-05-19 Thread Randy Barlow
Hello!

I had an idea for a summer internship project, but I wanted to ask my
fellow Fedora devs if something like this already exists so it doesn't
get created as a duplicate project.

The idea is to create a dnf plugin that would allow you to do this:

$ sudo dnf upgrade FEDORA-2017-30604deb62

That update is a Gnome update, and likely has packages in it that you
don't use, but others that you do. The plugin would compare the
packages in the update against your installed set of packages to form
and execute the true dnf update command that should be run without
installing new packages (unless they are required). It would also
enable updates-testing of course. It could even be written to pull the
rpms from Koji if the update hasn't hit testing yet.

I've found that it is a little painful for me to test multi-package
updates when I don't use all the RPMs and I don't keep updates-testing
enabled on my system, so that's my motivation behind the idea. Does
anything like this already exist? If not, does it sound like a useful
tool to others?

It could also support the install command, in which case it would just
install all the RPMs from the update.

I've now checked last koji build log with 5.24 and it also warns about
Term::Gnuplot. So this not new. I'm sorry for the noise.

> I'll take a look at it but is there a 5.26 environment I can try this out in?

Not yet. jplesnik could publish it on fedorapeople.org, but I think Fedora
infrastructure would have to increase her quota limit first.

Subject: Self Introduction: Thanos Apostolou

Hi, my name is Thanos Apostolou and I am from Greece. I am studying Electrical
and Computer Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens.

My linux experience, so far, is this:

I was using Ubuntu since 2012 and I was active in the askubuntu.com, where I
was trying to help people solving problems, while expanding my knowledge at the
same time.

Then I moved to arch based distros at 2016 where I settled with Manjaro. I
learned there how to create PKGBUILDs.
I've been active on the Manjaro forum, I have been doing a few Pull Requests to
Manjaro Github Repositories in order to improve/update certain packages.
I also maintain the Manjaro Lxde Community Edition.

Recently I decided to move to Fedora as it feels more "Professional" and higher
quality distribution.
So, I believe that Fedora provides a better user experience.
Additionally, I will be able to improve my knowledge by learning Fedora's
infrastructure.
However Fedora doesn't have the AUR and it's missing a lot of packages that I
needed, so I learned how to create simple RPM packages and how to use COPR.

I've seen many users (especially youtubers) avoiding Fedora because of some
missing packages and because it's not so user friendly.
So, my goal is to contribute to Fedora by creating some simple packages which
I've seen many people ask for.
Because of my University's workload, I don't have much time in order to do more
complex tasks, so in the beginning I want to make packages for some themes and
some simple software (like compton).
When I get enough experience, in the future, I might get involved with some
more difficult tasks.

For start, I have created this Review Request for vertex-theme which works good
with the latest gtk versions and looks awesome with gtk Fedora spins:

It's not. That release is identical (apart from the version number) to
2.010809b, which is what we have.

We'd get them anyway as Term::Gnuplot isn't in Fedora (I looked at it many
years ago but couldn't get it to work then).

I'll take a look at it but is there a 5.26 environment I can try this out in?
