Last night, with the help of James Cameron on irc, I managed to update the
firmware to q3a18 and the software to build 54. He did a superb job of walking
me through the process.
All seems to be working fine with the expected bugs (no camera yet). Now I just
need someone to tell

Thanks to the patience of James Cameron on IRC last night (probably morning for
him), I now have the XO-1.5 B machine Adam sent all updated to the latest
firmware (q3a18) and software (54) builds.
Are there specific things I should test or should I just "play" until I "break"
something?

We're testing how much performance you gain by swapping to an sd card.
The first thing we need to do is to compare the performance between a
regular XO 1.0 (no swapping) and one which swaps to an SD card.
The other thing is to measure how long an SD lasts if used that way.

Depends on how they measured it. Some mfgs will give you Wh for the
cell in the specs but most just give you mAh. mAh is easier to compute.
