Mesh network between xo1 and 1.5?

2010-05-06 Thread Ahmed MANSOUR
Hi,
I'm trying the mesh network between xo 1 (build=802/firmware Q2E41) xo
1.5 (build=116
/ firmware Q3A) but with no success, and also can't ping each other
without being connected first to access point.
I really hope there is a solution as I'm interested in showing the
mesh network demo to a laptop presentation next week.

Sorry, the 1.5 machine doesn't support 802.11s yet, so it needs to
use ad-hoc or managed mode to talk to an XO-1.

So either get both on the same Access Point, or, if you don't have an
access point...

 - On the XO-1.5, use the create a new network option you have in the frame
 - On the XO-1, wait a few seconds - the new network (with the name of
the XO-1.5 user) should appear in your network neighbourhood -- join
it.

cheers,

Have you tested this? I've just tested it and it doesn't work for me.
The ad-hoc network is not shown on the neighbourhood view of the XO-1.

It is, however, shown on the output of iwlist eth0 scan on the XO-1,
so it is as if Sugar 0.82 is filtering it.

Test configuration: two XO-1.5 build os123, one XO-1 build 802.

Test method: boot each, Create new wireless network on an XO-1.5,
monitor other XOs neighbourhood view.

(Aside; the XO-1.5 shows an icon for olpc-mesh).

That's correct. sugar-0.82 does not support ad-hoc networks.
If Ahmed is to continue with this approach, he needs to run a F11
build (or equivalent build with a newer sugar) on the XO-1.
