Thanks. > Please test and report bugs! I've seen it hang during booting, 2 out of 6-10 tries. There is one dot visible and the big X is still an X before it changes to a V and goes around in a circle. Is there anything I can do to collect more info? Do you expect suspend/restore to work? It seems to work from the touchpad and keyboard, but I can't get it to wakeup when a WiFi packet arrives. I turned on Settings/Power Automatic Power Management I turned off Settings/Radio Wireless/Radio If I wait a while (30 seconds?), the CPU/Power LED shifts to blink mode. The WiFi LED is still on. Ping won't wake it up. ping -i 5 keeps it from suspending. ping -i 6 doesn't. Once the CPU/Power LED starts blinking, ping stops working. A finger on the touchpad wakes it up. (So far, every time I've tried it.) Keys work too, but I've only tried them a few times. The My Settings/Radio Wireless/Radio checkbox seems to turn itself back on. If I turn it off, then get out of My Settings, then go back to My Settings, it's on. The WiFi LED doesn't track that checkbox. If the box is (was?) unchecked, the LED stays on when it suspends. That's what I expect. If the box is checked, the LED still stays on when it suspends. I was expecting it to turn off. (But even with the LED on, it doesn't wakeup when a packet arrives so who knows what's really going on.) -- These are my opinions, not necessarily my employer's. XO-1.5 thin firmware wireless testing
G'day, We'd like some testers of new wireless firmware and kernel drivers for the XO-1.5. You'll need an XO-1.5, our stable build os206, and a wireless access point. http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XO-1.5_Wireless_Test_Setup has the test instructions. I'm interested in experiences connecting to wireless access points; whether the connection is made, how fast it runs, and how long you can keep it going. If you're brave, you can try the software access point mode. Let us know how it goes. Ad-hoc is not in scope. It doesn't work for me. Suspend and resume is excluded, which is why my test setup scripts turn it off. The source is in the workspace branch of the git repository git://dev.laptop.org/users/javier/wireless-testing by Steve deRosier. See also http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XO-1.5_Wireless_Test_Report This is also a chance for anyone to test a 2.6.34 kernel on XO-1.5, to see if anything interesting happens. I've compared internal SD write performance and there's no significant difference. If that means the XO-1.5 build number doesn't change from os206, so be it. (However, I'd be surprised if we didn't need to fix something on XO-1.5 to get everything working between XO-1 and XO-1.5.) I'm easy either way; #9350 might be fixed and released in 10.1.2 or a 10.1.3, but it would be better fixed earlier than later. If anyone is in a power-measuring mode, it would be nice to measure the power usage when the Record activity is active and displaying the live feed, and compare it to measurements of the same situation on 8.2.1 build 802. We have halved the amount of data coming from the camera which will hopefully have an effect on power consumption. Re: New XO-1 10.1.2 build 300
To answer a few inevitable questions: This is F11 + Sugar 0.84 + GNOME 2.26, for XO-1. It's unsigned, meaning that you need a developer key to install it. I think OLPC will start producing signed betas soon. It's similar to recent builds made by Steven Parrish, and the 0.84 variant of the Paraguayan builds, the main differences are that a few more bugs have been fixed, and that everything comes from official OLPC RPM repositories and osbuilder, making it easier for deployers in other places. One of the bigger changes is the readdition of mesh support in sugar. It's particularly significant because (when the release goes final) it means we have synchronized software between XO-1 and XO-1.5. In terms of bugs I've been working here: http://dev.laptop.org/milestone/1.0-software-update Even though its similar to the versions that many have already been testing, this would benefit from some fresh testing with the mindset of it being an upgrade on top of OLPC OS 8.2.1 build 802. I feel that this version is almost ready for release, but am eager to see if other people can find new problems. It is being built with olpc-os-builder from git, using configuration examples/olpc-os-10.1.2-xo1.ini (see http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OSBuilder ) Daniel ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel

Here is an xorg.conf that does exactly that: http://dev.laptop.org/~martin/usbvga/xorg-xo1.5-dcon-hires-extmon.conf It is *much* faster than VNC, and plays well with suspend (you'll still want to disable aggressive powersaving). Limitations and notes: - Needs to be "switched on" at X startup time. olpc-configure could check at boot time if sisusbvga is loaded and change the xorg.conf symlink. - It clips the margins of the desktop. But not very much, if the projector honours the resolution, it's minimal. (Funny enough, if we use 1280x960 but try to constrain it with Virtual, X ignores our Modes line and falls back to 1152x864.) - It hides the cursor -- this is a long-standing Xinerama "mirror mode" quirk. - It isn't super fast, but the performance is acceptable. (We are saturating the USB 2 bandwidth with the amount of pixels and the bitdepth -- but cannot scale down either.) - Video (via Xv) doesn't work on USB2VGA devices cheers, m -- martin.langh...@gmail.com mar...@laptop.org -- School Server Architect - ask interesting questions - don't get distracted with shiny stuff - working code first - http://wiki.laptop.org/go/User:Martinlanghoff ___ Devel mailing list Devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/devel
Important change in olpc-os-builder procedure
Hi, With the purpose of allowing deployments to reconstruct and customize OLPC OS releases, we documented the process of checking out the latest version of olpc-os-builder from git and using it to construct OLPC OS images, and I gave some sessions on this process at various deployments. I've identified a small problem in that process, in that running the very latest olpc-os-builder is not what we want to be advising in order to reconstruct official releases. This is because ongoing developments in that tree will result in changes in the resultant image, meaning that your resultant image is something different from what OLPC released (perhaps resulting in some bugs) -- whereas our goal is that you reconstruct exactly the OLPC OS release, so that no unpredictable behaviour occurs. I have updated the documentation here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OS_Builder My advice for those deployments who were already using the old instructions: 1. Back up your config file and /usr/share/olpc-os-builder 2. Remove /usr/share/olpc-os-builder from the disk 3. Follow the download/install instructions on the wiki As OLPC OS 10.1.1 was officially released yesterday, this "fixed version" is what XO-1.5 deployments what to be using at this time. The situation beforehand was a bit unusual and confusing in that as a one-off we advised deployments to use an unreleased development version, hopefully this will not happen again. So 2 more steps to add: 4. Synchronize the [repos] and [yumcfg] sections of your config file with the one from examples/olpc-os-10.1.1-xo1.5.ini 5. In your config file, change the suggested_oob_version line (if you have one) to 1.1.0 (like is shown in examples/olpc-os-10.1.1-xo1.5.ini) You now have a configuration which will continue to replicate/customize OLPC OS 10.1.1 regardless of ongoing developments (which may introduce bugs, or changes which cause the previous build configs to cease to function correctly). Apologies for the inconvenience. As OLPC only made the first official release using this tool yesterday, we're still a little bit in the teething process!
