Looks like I drummed up allot of Olivia
500/8 activity this evening on 160 meters. There was allot of fairly rapid QSB
on the band but I still had 100% print on KG4YWD in VA, K0OG in MO, KC0FCP in
KS, N7DC in VA, K9PS and N9FDF in IN.

Top Band Olivia report from KB1CJ near Boston, 0200-0300Z, 12/10/2005
(Friday evening local time):
Copied KN4LF on 1806.5 at S/N 8 to 10, working K0OG and KC0FCP (did
not copy the 0-area stations). Tried responding to KN4LF's CQ, but no
luck.
Heard W3NF (S/N 21 db) work KC0FCP and N7DC on
It's 0214, and I'm on now listening and calling on 1807.5.

There is more going on there than HF BBS's and the legal frequency range
is quite small on 20m -- the frequencies are defined in Part 97. The
issue is not QRM detection, but legality of automatic control.

My guess is that there is some kind of automatic level
control that's turned on. When you transmit, the computer is hearing
silence, so the ALC bumps the slider up. Sorry, I'm not sure were to look
for it other then in the driver and mixer. Be sure to explore all the
options.

I don't use Windows any more than I can help, but isn't there an "Add

the option of having Windows try to detect the hardware automatically,
or you tell it that you have a driver disk (Do you? I don't know; I

Proof Of God Through
I managed to make one 20 minute QSO this
evening on 1807.500 kc Olivia sub mode 500/8. I favor the 500/8 sub mode because
it's really fast and yet is very robust with QRN and QSB. The QSO was with
W3NF in Maryland at a distance of approximately 910 miles. He was running 50
watts to an inve
