I am just in the process of commissioning a new computer, an ASUS A8V
motherboard with AMD 3000+ cpu and 512mb ram
System is XP Pro with SP1
This motherboard has an on board Realtek AC97 sound card.
If I plug a Creative Live PCI sound card in, and boot up, the Live card
is found and installed ok
Perhaps with a little FEC and the slower speed and a shorter frame,
Packet might have worked better on HF.
I remember reading that packet requires a rather high S/N ratio to work.
The only redeeming value is that it is an ARQ mode and it can run on a
sound card such as with Patrick's Multipsk p

I can't give you any info, but would appreciate hearing how you get
on. Soundmodem ax.25 on the NSLU2 is one of my future projects, but
as current projects keep slipping to the right, I've got nowhere near
looking at it.
