For those of you planning to donate your old notebook
to project chispa, our next meeting is on March/5th, Saturday
in Harvard Medical School. Minimum RAM of 256MB required.

To be fair, both systems could have something wrong with them. Given
that the more straightforward causes are being eliminated more

I don't think anyone ever lamented the design... just how often it
presented itself. :(

Thanks for clarifying the initial intent.
Could we please get back to technical topics.

Sounds like a candidate for an almost trivial Fedora spin...

Installing kexec-tools did generate this warning:
update-rc.d: warning: kdump start runlevel arguments (2) do not match
LSB Default-Start values (0 1 2 3 4 5)

I do that about once a year and did so in January when I upgraded the RAM.
The crash frequency has perhaps increased in frequency some since the
RAM upgrade, but the problem was definitely there prior to the RAM
upgrad

This happens with both Linux and Windows, so it cannot be system
software if two operating systems are involved.
When I pinged both the router and modem during these episodes, both
respond to pings without any packet loss from either.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start this kind of dialog. I was wondering more
about technical information about how one can setup free networks or
ones which can evade the over reaching "shut down the internet switch".

There are plenty of forums on the Internet for people to shout their
political ideologies at each other.
This is not one of them.

I really like the way she talks at us like we're 3rd graders.

I have seen such things be thermal related.
Even though it is a laptop, open it up or have a tech do it and clean
it out. Dust, lint, etc build up and can cause thermal overload. It
is very dusty were we live, and I have this as an issue in desktops
here.

It was NAT that extended the life of IPV4. In any case, it will be an
interesting next couple of years in IP space.

I have not as yet tried a traceroute when this occurs, but will do so the next
time. I have not experienced this same issue on my laptop using a wireless
connection.
But even when this occurs, /if/ the problem is further downstream, past the
cable modem, at least the modem and router status p
