**Sorry for Cross Postings**
In preparation for Summit 09 on
Arjan, its *great* to see design approaches being explored in a program like
this!
another approach might be to bring the design *process* to the surface, to
compliment things that focus on the subject matter (security)
eg in your 2nd year course, you talk about influence perception of

nice thoughts Dave and Uday,
my *quick* take on the practice/discipline thang is that they're
different and complimentary..
to me, practice is about the doing of something in the lived world..
it is an expansive activity that is necessary for a field to grow and
mutate

interesting thread..
one of the things that I find most different with sound as an
interactive element is the way it is experienced in relation to
itself.. its waaay relative
let me explain: because sound is a time based medium and must be
listened to over time to be comprehended, it's hard to
@Dave and others asking for deeper analysis etc, a lot of this is
reminding me of some things I read for my PhD last year, particularly
around work integrated learning (WIL) particularly in the health

oh - and I'll dig out the WIL etc refs and post too. it'll take me a

coming in late here sorry,
I think this rocks, and that it could be made even better by rethinking how
it describes the things users use.
At the moment it uses the word 'product' and that's fine for insiders, but
to communicate to the world at large I feel another term might be better.

i stand corrected - check out dopplr's timeline view .. works best

not really a smarter representation, but time manager international

I've always loved their year planner booklet because it lets you see a month

its schema is similar to the outlook example you

Mozart, Yo-Yo Ma, Bernstein, Prince, Stalker etc are all fine.. but lets
also keep in mind people like Water Murch, and the fact that a great sound

@Matthew,
1.
one way I could see it going is to try define what the design you're
highlighting *is* and wrap some patterns around it.. ie: what do you
mean by 'Tasty Design'?
eg: Pattern Tap could define 'aesthetic patterns' where you describe
the problem and solutions in terms of IxD aesthetics
Matthew, thanks for putting this out there, it's a really great set of
inspiration sources!
re 'patterns': I think something like Pattern Tap compliments other
resources like http://welie.com or http://ui-patterns.com/ for the reason
that it approaches selection from a different angle: 'Tasty

yeah, I'm also a little suss on Basex here.. but *am* interested in

Welcome
one thing I'd be *very* interested in knowing is:
How many of us have taken a course/class or program/degree that had
interaction design in the name? Or even close..?
reason I ask is that I think it's a really interesting time for IxD,
(I assume) most of our respected members of the community
