[OSGeo-Discuss] Open Location Services
I am looking for an open source project that has implemented OpenLS specification from OGC. I know their are some groups working on this * PAGC (on their road map) * OpenRouter (any code yet?) * OpenGeocoder (any code yet?) I am looking to see if anyone has this OUT OF THE BOX and ready to download and install. If there are any projects that are close I wouldn't mind hearing when the proposed release date is or what is required to make OpenLS happen with an open source solution. My understanding is that OSGEO is working towards refrence implementations of OGC specs (http://www.opengeospatial.org/pressroom/pressreleases/944) perhaps OpenLS has a reference implementation? Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Fw: AAG Extends Deadline for Abstracts to Nov. 18
The session mentioned was posted by Eric Wolf who took over organizing it this year in my stead. http://n2.nabble.com/CGP-AAG-2010-Open-Source-Tools-and-Standards-in-GISc-Research-and-Education-td3830239.html#a3830239 I would encourage the creation of a 2nd session or panel aimed at less technical users - those went over pretty well last year. This does bring up the other questions about the AAG: Booth?, Workshops? I don't plan to present this year but wouldn't be against helping with the booth and a workshop if there's interest and budget to make it happen. We should probably put this and the AGU in December on the Marketing agenda for next week. If you were really keen you could write a JDBC bridge to the GeoTools DataStore API; it would be a great contribution (and hurt everyones brain). still dont get how the SELECT * FROM city will retun city map map.google.com have a searching feature.. NB: i am still learning to connect those geospatial server using geotools, still seeking the certification or something that certified that all those popular server is compliance.. [OSGeo-Discuss] Need recommendation: Base map + WKTs to JPG
I am looking for recommendations the Open Source community for the following application. Currently I have an OpenLayers map that is dynamically generated with a Google base map and 3 WKT polygons with styles applied. All layers are projected as Spherical Mercator. I programmatically execute the map and scrape the map to a JPG image. This map is called from another application and there is no user interaction; everything is automated. Since OpenLayers is drawing within the browser and is not intended to be captured and saved, my current approach isn't working very well. If anyone has an alternate approach, I would very much appreciate hearing your ideas. My requirements are 1. Display Google base map 2. Support WKT 3. Support custom symbology 4. Export to JPG (or other image format) programmatically Thanks Clark ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] The Best API for accessing map/geospatial server
Playing a bit of devil's advocate but (broadly speaking) if you want your app to be interchangeable with different implementations of (nontrivial) standards you always need to test interoperability anyway because even in (unattainable) perfectly bug-free software there is always some variance due to interpretation of the standard. In other words, there is usually some ambiguity/grey area in the standards. Not to knock on certification, but its not a silver bullet. Bottom line is testing is needed if interoperability is a mission requirement. To help in this you can now obtain the cite tests yourself; which are used to test applications prior to being certified; so at least in this case you can actually know what certification means.
