It flickers whenever you move the mouse over a button or a frame in the
window, and also during the regular refresh. It is very off-putting but
only ever flickers when using the remote desktop.

Sorry.. got kind of caught up in my own problems. I did not mean to
imply that your problem was for sure a DHCP problem. You might be
having a situation where DHCP is causing some issues for you, but there
could be something else going on. In my case, DHCP renegotiation was
resulting in a new IP
I have stopped using my Tivo to play MP3s now that I have a Squeezebox.
The Squeezebox sounds better than the Tivo, but an even more important
difference is in the interface. It's a real pain drilling down through
Tivo's screens to get to the music I want to hear. And, as Derek said,

I don't know anything about apple lossless, or about apples in general,
but it sounds like a dispatching problem on the mac mini. I can't think
of a good reason that the server would stop sending data for one second
unless the mac wasn't dispatching it.

AACs and Apple Lossless versions of each file. Since the AACs are just
for iPod use and I didn't want 'em shown on the slimserver, I thought I
had a workaround when I noticed that slimserver has an iTunes option

I second everyone else's posts. I used to use a Series 2 Tivo w/HMO to
play MP3's. The sound quality via my SB2 is considerably better.
The SB's internal DAC is far superior to most you'll find on the market
in typical consumer devices.

When the Squeezebox requests an IP adress from a DHCP server, it doesn't
seem to send its own host name.
E.g. in Linux (Debian/Ubuntu), you can send the hostname to the DHCP
server by adding the following lines to /etc/dhclient.conf:
send dhcp-client-identifier 00:00:00:00:00:00; // enter mac

Well it looks great in Safari on OSX and modifying playlists doesn't
require a page reload - which has always been an annoyance for me in
SlimServer.
If there was a way to integrate this kind of functionality into
SlimServer I'd be a very happy camper.

Actually, better than superglue might be to slightly loosen the two
screws on the back. This will reduce the pressure from the back case
on the edges of the plates, then press the plate back on firmly.

SB2/SB3 will suppress sending the same screen data to the player. Hence
there is only one display frame per minute if you turn off the seconds
display. A display frame for SB2/3 is ~1290 bytes.
SB1 and Slimp3 will send a display frame once per second in date time
mode. [this is because SB1

Just to clarify, I think it's important to note that a really well
crafted Flash interface/skin is quite a different animal than a
AJAX/DHTML/CSS/DOM-based interface/skin. I wouldn't develop anything in
Flash because of its proprietary nature, but that's a question of taste
and philosophy.

I (finally) received my Nokia 770 yesterday. Some first impressions of
the device, with special attention to it's use as a slimserver
controller.
First, general impressions:
- Not a perfect device, but still very cool. I've found that when you

Handheld skin with increased font sizes.
If you wanted to look at updating the skin I would recommend starting
with the 6.5 code base. It looks like creating skins may be easier and
it isn't necessary for plugin developers

The forums here are too restrictive on attachments (no complaints
there, that's how I'd do it too), so I just whipped up a page of

I'd encourage those with negative preconceptions about Flash UI to
withhold judgement. That platform has been radically upgraded and we're
probably just a few months away from seeing a wave of web applications
with very nice Flash-based user interfaces.
Granted AJAX has the lead currently,
rt-- fantastic summary of the State of Things.
lots of uber-cool stuff to look forward to. XUL, etc. are going to have
some really exciting applications to slimserver in the months/years to
come.

buffer fullness. One of the packets tells you that, but unless you can
decipher the packets, it's not obvious (they're stored in certain
packets, in binary, etc).

ending up in a playing state with no actual music being produced, and
being stuck on the same song until some user intervention. I was
*unable* to catch the condition with debug flags enabled. A post mortem
reveals:
