Native WMA playing has only recently been added to the Squeezebox
firmware, not sure if its made it into Softsqueeze yet (you mention
version 2.2 which makes me think you mean Softsqueeze rather than
Squeezebox).
Slimserver will play AAC files, though the extension is more usually
M4A, I think -

Yeah, unfortunately I just got a whole setup a few months ago with 1
base unit + 4 handsets.

I have windows XP, running Slim, behind a router and firewall.
I connect using SSH. I have Cygwin installed on my windows PC, and
have port 22 (standard SSH port) forwarded to that machine.

set the sleep function? from that state, hitting any key should
reactivate the display

From my experience of using these displays back in the days of writing
fruit machines many years ago, the displays are kind of controlled by
their own firmware which allows brightness setting, etc, but you don't
have low enough level access to PWM the brightness level properly
yourself.

1. Apart from the using Softsqueeze 2.2, i have also used a client
written by me, with which I read from the slimserver. When ever I
clicked a WMA file, I get a stop slimproto command. Also when I read
the HTTP stream, i get only zero bytes. Slimserver is not at all

I've never heard of ungrant. To be honest, if you're not comfortable
with MySQL already, you may be better off using the supported solution
i.e. the sqllite db.
You don't need to specifically create the slimserver user. 'grant all
on slimserver.* to slimserver' implicitly creates the user

I'm not sure how I can achieve this and I suspect it's not possible but
here goes anyway.
My Squeezeboxes are on random mix pretty much full time. That can give
me an issue if music with bad language is played at an inopportune time
such as when children or 'sensitive' people are in the house.
A developer has come up with an XM plug-in, but so far there is no
Sirius plug-in. I'd be willing to pay for such a program, and if
others are too, maybe we could entice the XM developer or someone else
to work on it. Post here if you'd be willing to kick in a nominal
amount to encourage

specified. Are you able to stream with those settings?

FWIW, MusicMagic allows you to exclude albums, artists, tracks, etc.,
from its mixes. It also allows you to rate tracks via a rating system
and exclude certain ratings from the mix. There's a free trial.

i actually downloaded the server software last weekend and had been
playing with it so i was already familiar with the funtions of the

I bought a new hard drive to back up my music files and also use on
another computer that is Windows 98. I converted my original external
hard drive (where my music files are now stored on a Windows XP macine)
to NTFS from FAT32. The new hard drive is FAT32, and I'm thinking I
want to keep that

Copying files should not be an issue, but the FAT32 file system doesn't
handle errors as well as ntfs does, so you may be more prone to drive
errors. It's be best to get off 98 if you can and move to XP if the
box can handle it.

I think the box could handle it. How
You can get the XP Home Upgrade edition for around $100, the upgrade
from 98 should be as straightforward as sticking the disc in and
answering some questions. If you're feeling braver, take a backup, wipe
the disk and do a clean install.

I had a similar issue which turned out to be due to the WMA files being
protected. I found that all files I loaded through Windows XP media
center were protected but with Media player I could turn this off when
I stored my Cd's to the PC. Also I had to delete any that I had
already added and
MyOnkyo remtoe does not have a learning function and I think I have tried 20 or 30 codes (all possible JVC codes I could find in the Onkyo manual as well as anywhere else plus just some other random ones (trying to 'get lucky').
None work, so I suppose I am out of luck.
