I use a mac mini - it's as quiet as any pvr I've owned and has spdif connection for multi channel audio and you can pretty much connect it to anything for a display (one way or another). As it comes with a remote and front-row built in, it's pretty much good to go out of the box. All I did was

I have some field recordings by certain artists that I'd like to appear as a group at the end of the artist listing. I've tried to use an ASCII character that sorts after the letter Z to get these to list as a group but Slimserver just ignores the special character and lists them alphabetically.

As long as the hostname slim is in some sort of hosts file on each client or there is a local dns that url will work. Without some sort of nameserver or lookup file the url will have to use the IP address. From there KDF is spot on. Once the stream is created you will have to use the web
