I'm going to cut my losses and purchase a logitech harmoney remote.
Prices here for the 300i and 515 are very similar. Which one should I
go for? Does anyone have any experience with them?

That's great it worked for you.
Yes, sorry it should have been 0.100. I've updated my original post.
I'm going to add an option to allow that option to be changed from the
command line.

I have a Controller, which unlike some I really do like - except for the
wimpy battery life. I've also used a Nokia N770 with the Nokia skin. I
liked that (the Nokia has great battery life but the skin seems not to
be as up to date). With the bunch of new multi-capable remote devices
out there
iPad. If you just use it for remote control and let it sleep between
activities it will likely last a week. There's nothing else I have that
comes even close WRT battery life. Oh, except for an IR remote, of
course.

I suspected it would be something with an i in front of it. Right now,
though, getting an iPad would be sort of overkill for me. I already
have a couple of lightweight PC notebooks. I'd need a pretty good
reason to get more functionality out of an iPad when I already have
those, to think about

I may have discovered your problem. I think it's a bug in portaudio

Modify your makefile and add the --without-alsa option before

Thanks Toby, worked a treat.

If you use a phone and disable the phone part of it it could also
help a bit. Don't know about Android (never tried to turn off cellular
on that one) but on my iPhone it lasts significantly longer with only
WiFi than an iPod touch with WiFi so I assume it has a bigger battery.
Hello. A technical question, please: can someone comment on the
technical/practical differences between the streaming network audio
model, as used by Squeezebox and many other commercial devices,
compared to a conventional music playback application (such as
XMMS/Rhythmbox/Amarok/Aqualung) which

I get a portaudio error that no audio output devices are found.
I probably need to configure a oss device in asound.conf, but...
I had a question about the makefiles though.
Do i use the makefile.linux26-alsa-display or
Many thanks wayne I will give it go. However the internet radio works
perfectly and it all worked fine with the old computer - making me
think it's more likely something with the computer.

I suspect a simple question - I wanted to load the Eric Koldingers
Synchronizer plugin. I can download it but am not sure what the next
step is. New to squeezebox so this would bemuch appreciated.

Too bad about the iPod Touch. Maybe I'd just be better off getting a
Nokia N800? Wonder if the skins work better on it than the 770.

No idea.
Whatever you use, I'd suggest to get a dock...

I have an 800. They're the same skins. Do they not work on the 770?
There's now a version of firefox for the n800/810. Maybe for the 770

On an unrelated note - if you have small notebooks / netbooks around,
why not try Moose? Or even just the standard web GUI?
I find that there are problems with displaying the what's playing

I don't know about the Nokia but the Android devices I've used so far
were worse on battery lifetime than the iThingys.
There's a good app for Android, though, SqueezeCommander.

What kind of phone do you have? As already mentioned, there are great

Personally, I would lean against the N800. I like the device, but it
