Joe, I think you're onto something. I am using iWow. Removing it seems
to have solved the problem. My router is acting up so I can't test it
through the SqueezeBox but playing the AAC tunes through softqueeze
produces zero static. Good work!
I had iWow installed before the 10.4.9 update and had
This is interesting. The version of iWow i had installed was the latest
at 1.1.7. Joe, is this the version you had installed? I found an ealier
version, 1.1.3, in one of my archives and installed it. Guess what? No
static with AAC files. I don't have the versions of iWow between 1.1.3
and 1.1.7
Found an odd updater to iWow. It says it's 1.1.8 but a Get Info on the
file has it listed as 1.1.7. It has the same file size and Modified
Date as 1.1.7 and still produces static. Did they screw up? iWow
version history below. Anyone know what iTea is?

aac static problem with Mac 10.4.9 solved
I have finally solved the problem with hearing only static when playing
aac files.
The culprit was an itunes plugin call iWOW from SRSlabs. It works great
as an iTunes audio enhancer but kills the aac playback with the
slimserver. Simply removing it
Just tried it on mac 10.4.9, ss 6.5.2. sb1 wired.
I don't normally use aac files so I converted an mp3 file to test and
it played fine.

It should solve the problem, especially since SS makes calls to
QuickTime to do the transcoding.
I had tried that before and I just tried it again now.
I also tried re-installing quicktime and itunes with no success. I am
back to all AAC not working - just loud hiss/static.
Interestingly I get the same problem running slimserver (6.5.2/1) on
different machines. My Mac Mini and my Dual G5 box.
Help other mac users. Are others seeing this.
Joe
I don't know what to tell you guys... it's been flawless for me since
installing last November. What other info can you give us about your
setup? Can you re-confirm the FILE FORMAT CONVERSION SETUP for the
server? Check ALL AAC file types (there are two sections of them). Are
you streaming at

I have this problem as well. My AAC will no longer play.
I posted this in the general section before I saw this thread. Any news
on the cause of the problem?

Hello,
All of my AAC files no longer play. I just get static.
This happens
Is there no one having issues with AAC files after upgrading to 10.4.9?
Damn! no one to verify or refute my suspicions. Hope it wasn't going to
have to come to this... looks like I'm going to have to downgrade to
10.4.8 to see if that fixes the problem.

Do a debug log with d_source and the log should show whether the set up
for AAC decode on your system is correct on not.

Wow, thanks for the reply bpa! Started playing one of my static
infected AAC files and then checked the log. Here's what it spat out.
Please let me know
After letting it play a few AAC files I see in the log that when an AAC
file starts playing in generates the following. Any problems here?
Thanks.

Hmm I don't see anything in the logs. Can you file a bug and attach one
of the bad m4a files? Make sure to include your log in the bug, too.

Hey thanks andyg. I'll find a smallish m4a and attach that with my bug
report.
