It took a while, but now it is up and running. I had a lot of problems
starting the MusicIP service from the GUI, but once I followed the
instructions on http://www.musicip.com/mixer/server.jsp it worked a lot
better.
Once it is up and running, you can see the MM symbol after songs you
can use
I'm on 6.3.1 with MusicIP 1.7 and run AlienBBC. Is there any reason to
upgrade? Do I get any new features or should I just stick with what
works?

Is there any documentation on MusicIP/MusicMagic? I've downloaded and
installed the MusicIP software. I can send a playlist to slimserver
(although only one song, apparently a 'known issue'
(http://forums.predixis.com/index.php?showtopic=2407pid=10360st=0#entry10360)).
