Well, what do you know?
Re-typing the folder title verbatim sorts it to the correct place.
I haven't the slightest idea why that works, since I made no change at
all to the title aside from typing it in again.
Thank you all so much for the help!

A lot of people have issues with compilations. Maybe that's why I never
use them. I instead use a title I will recognize as a compilation. It
might be nice if one of those knowledgeable in the area could put
together a wiki of sorts of how to use compilations properly along with
what not to do.

I never use BMF, so couldn't really say. I think you can get a slightly
different ordering compared to Windows because of how windows collates
some punctuation characters, but this shouldn't apply to the OP's
problem.

Ok so the file and folder names are also in the dB . I just never

Yes when using music folder its the OS that sorts them. Numbers first

But why not have proper tags and go with artist and album ?

Have you checked the tags ? How the folders are named/labeled is of no
significance. What matters are the tags for the albums. For example I
can have a folder named 7-16-2001 Grateful Dead. If that is how the
album is tagged in the Album Field it would show up at the top of the
list as #s appear
The L's are really "L's"...and the albums sort correctly in windows
explorer, just not in the LMS music folder list...has always kind of
bugged me.
It is just a few titles, not really a huge issue.
Renaming them, and naming them again makes no difference in the LMS
sort.

What you might even try is to rename the folder and then rename it back.

All I can suggest is check the L's in the first "Bill" in that folder
name. Could they be something else?

This is using the "music folder" display in web interface of LMS.
Out of dozens of Miles Davis and Bill Evans albums that appear in
correct alphabetical order, there are a few that appear in what seems
randomly out of place...elsewhere.
Thanks for those trying to lend a hand...I'm sorry if my qu
You say some of them do not show up in alphabetical order. From that I
gather that some Miles Davis and Bill Evans show up in the correct spot
alphabetically. Is That correct ? It also sounds as if you are

Explain exactly what you mean by "music folder list". How are you
browsing? On the Squeezebox player (which model?) or in the Squeezebox
Controller, or in the web interface, or ...? And which method are you
using - Artists, Albums, Genres, Music Folder or some other means?

I have lots of jazz albums...Miles Davis, Bill Evans, etc.
Some of them do not appear in alphabetical order in the music folder
list, and I've never been able to figure out why this is.
How might I fix this?

More detail would be helpful. You speak of the metadata of the songs.
What about the tags of the albums themselves. The folder name is
inconsequential unless the tags mirror it.

Always wondered why a couple of album titles show up in a different
place than they should in the alphabetical music folder listing of LMS.
Artist names in folder title are spelled correctly, and there doesn't
seem to be any weird metadata in the FLAC song names.
Any ideas?
