But back on topic: Is it possible to start SqueezePlay as a service?
While SqueezeSlave works great, it has limitations...

Use -S if you want to share your sound device with other applications,
including Windows sounds etc. If you don't specify -S squeezeslave
obtains exclusive access to the device so you only hear the audio from
squeezeslave.

Hi Ralphy,
I had a silly pilot error when trying 184, it now works fine with
WASAPI as expected. I've updated my previous post in this thread.
Quick question: -S works for me, but under what conditions should I
use it?
Thanks,
George

Nice tutorial. Thanks for posting it.
The latest WASAPI squeezeslave build 0.9-184 supports shared mode audio
as well with the -S/--shared command line option.
Perhaps the latest updates to the portaudio library included in r184
have fixed the problems you had with
It's the same for wasapi as the tutorial shows, use -L and then start ss
with -oN where N is the number listed before the device. The device
must already be operational in WIN7 or Vista before running -L.
I haven't forgotten the buffering issue.

I've been using Squeezeslave for months now and love it. Occasionally
I get a glitch, but it is quite satisfactory. The author of

There is always squeezeslave a gui less player you can try .
I don't use it so I don't know it's limitations.
All the softplayers have different limitations and quirks compared to
both each other and a real hardware player :)

Hi,
I just installed squeezeplay on my htpc and it works really great. I
control it via ipeng on my iphone.
So far so good. Anyways my htpc software does not like squeezeplay gui
to be active at the same time. Is there any way to run this in the
background?
Some kind of silent mode? Or start
I run squeezeslave as a service on my htpc with no issues. I have not
found anything that would not work (note that you need to make-up a
unique mac address for it to work with mysqueezebox.com). Here are
instructions I used to install it:
