I remember an extension to CDJ that added this feature.
CDJ was a Windows based software front end to a device called Slink-e
that interfaced with Sony CD changers among other things.

Idea: Musicbrainz could add phonetic tags to all its artists, so the
software could just look up how to say each artist (and, possibly,
album and track name).
