You're right - sharing to facebook from Wimp does not work on the
Squeezebox Radio either. So it must be the WIMP app that's bugging -
right ?

Thanx for quick response :-)

Re: [slim] Spotify (officially) on SqueezeboxServer?

2011-01-12 Thread pippin

I'm not 100% sure but my impression is that the time of fear is over but
the dominant factor right now is overselling growth potentials.

Since iTunes they've seen digital distribution works.

I believe there are a lot of power point presentations out there that
show how much more money you could make if you sell the same stuff 7
times instead of one time and that that is the way to go.

OK, customers don't do that kind of shot but that doesn't bother the
power point presentation.

Services like Spotify help them because they spend a lot of money they
get from VCs for early growth so you can draw nice charts about how
well they grow and how much money they generate how much it will be if
that continued the same way for 30 years. And especially if you are
having 10 of them because you only give Spotify 5 countries, Napster
two, WiMP another two and so on.

Unfortunately, after 5 years the VC money is through and they have to
scale down on pushyness like it happend to Rhapsody, Napster,
Pandora,... in the past but that doesn't matter because until then
there will be the next cool growth engine with fresh money who's
prospects you can print on your power point slides.

The piracy argument is and always has been just a straw man.

But then hey: This is not just record industries. Corporate business
works this way all around us, doesn't it ;)

As Triode's plugin works on Transporter, Boom and SB3...I will continue
using Triode's solution with my players. But, will we be able to do that
in the future too? Is the plugin still working (and available) next year
and the year after that? I'm afraid that Transporter, for example, will
drop in sale if there's no official soultion offered. I love the idea
of streaming Spotify through squeezenetwork without even using a PC.
Isn't there a way for Logitech to create a lite version of the plugin
for the older players (with less memory inside?). I'm afraid that's
tricky stuff for bigger companies but I really want my players to work
with Spotify even in the future without having to swith the Transporter
to some SB Touch...
Thanks for letting this forum be part of the upcoming releases

Yes they do, its called the SqueezeBox Touch! OK, hardly high end
but pretty good hi-fi. Anybody really serious about high end can
team it up with a top notch DAC and get 99% (or more) of the audio
quality available from the Transporter.

I think we will have to be happy with that as Logitech are not a
high-end audio company. I think Andy and co must have accepted that
SqueezeBox's future was as a mass market product if Logitech took over.

Already I think the Transporter is no longer a current model and they
are simply using up their parts stock. Once they have used up all the
parts they will stop making it and that will be that.

I am (probably vainly) hoping that they might do a dumb version of
the Transporter - a sort of super-Receiver with all the high quality
network and audio hardware/connectors but without the big box, buttons
and VFDs. Most serious buyers would have either a Controller or iPeng
anyway.

The Jazzloft sleeves are brilliant, cannot recommend them too highly.
Well worth the cost of importing them from US. I access them mainly to
refer to the CD booklets.

To me the main problem with digital music is the lack of sleeve notes
and lyrics. If the record companies are as short of cash as they say
they are, they could sell PDF copies of the CD booklets. If they were
cheap enough they would sell lots and people would probably not bother
to pirate them.

Completely agree. ;)
But a $300 Touch is a completely different animal than a $2k
Transporter.
Logitech is mass market, not boutique and IMO they don't even do
mass market well when it comes to SB players here in the US.
Go to any Best Buy store that is FILLED with Logitech branded items,
ask for the SqueezeBox items, and all you get is a blank look on their
faces.
*If* they find the players in the store at all (usually involves
looking it up on their inventory computer) they will be in a different
category / location in every store.
Sometimes they are with computers, sometimes with the iPod docks,
sometimes in home theatre, sometimes with boom boxes

Interesting ideas.

But as erland said might be difficult for SqueezePad.
For instance when browsing Napster menus, SqueezePad actually doesn't
even know it's showing Napster-Menus. It just gets a list of menuitems
which are either playable or have a submenu.

As of the other idea: a context menu for the local library (here it
might be possible to realize when I'm in the albums or artists list)
especially for Napster ... have to analyze if the Napster menus have
some special commands to start them.

Right now I don't have a Napster account, put will put it on the list
of things to investigate!

Thanks a lot for sharing your ideas!

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback arrives on iPad: SqueezePad 1.7.0 released

2011-01-12 Thread SadGamerGeek

Just got round to trying this.

The music playback on my iPad is a great feature!

Unfortunately the sync. is badly broken for me - is this a known
issue?

I've been trying it synced to my SB Radio classic (both individually
and all together). I can't get anywhere close to sync. When I first
tried it with my radio, I played all the way through one track with the
music only coming from the iPad. The radio showed the correct artwork
and play symbol, but no audio. Once it moved onto the next track, the
radio started playing but many seconds out. I'm now trying it synced
with my SB classic, but I can only seem to get one of them (classic or
iPad) playing at a time. Also, when the iPad is playing and synced, the
iPad player's pause control has no effect, though next and previous
do.

I've bought the in-app purchase anyway, as I'm sure this'll get sorted!

Hi SadGamerGeek,
the App description states, that synchronization is not supported in
SqueezePad.

I'm not sure yet, whether (good) synchronization will work at all on
iPad ... it's got a totally different sound system (and timing
features) compared to a SqueezeBox.

So while it might be easy to make streams start at the same time (which
I might support in the next version), I'm not sure if it will ever be
possible to have a good sync that survives the first minutes of playing
stuff.

That'll teach me not to read app descriptions!

That makes sense. It wasn't a massive deal for me, I'm very happy with
it anyway!

Changing players, for example, is easy in SqueezePad, via the dropdown,
but in iPeng you need to do some cryptic left-scroll or right-scroll
which I've never really understood - I seem to go in circles with And to
think that I so much prefer iPeng for IPhone navigation to iPeng
for iPad navigation... Go figure :)

Yes it's a simple mod to use full screen and the screensavers I am
traveling at present but will share the files and some pictures if that
would be of help over the weekend.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.0 released

2011-01-12 Thread ralphy

Yes.

If the netbook is running a complete linux distribution you should be
able to compile squeezeslave on the netbook. That is the recommended
process for linux systems. It'll most likely require tweaking one of
the current makefiles, which I can do for you. I'll need the output
from 'uname -a', without the quotes and linux distribution installed
for starters. You may need to install the compiler and other programs
to do the build.

Keith,

Please try the newest beta. :-)

The problem should be fixed now, hopefully without breaking too much
other Internet Radio stuff. ;-)
