That doesn't seem to be the case when I'm starting SS as
SlimServer.exe. I've had the reload interval set to 0 for some time now
(since post #45).

Again, sorry that I won't be around for a week now. I'll get straight
back on to it next Monday.

wendell is also working from the Predixis side to give is a bit more to
work with to determine when is and is not a good time to scan.
Thanks to wendell to for your help.

Good luck!

[slim] Multiple disc albums using DISC DISCC doesn't work.

2005-04-30 Thread dborn

I'm using a recent 6.1.0 nightly and I filled DISC DISCC tags for my
multi-disc albums album title (disc %DISC% of %DISCC%) and then
removed the (disc x of y) part in the album titles. And then I
rescanned. This doesn not seem to work (or I don't understand how it's
supposed to work!?) because regardless of the Group Discs setting, all
my multi-disc albums show up as single albums with tracks all listed in
numerical order (not according to disc order). I've already filed bug
1473.

Anybody else seen this?

I was playing tunes this morning for about 1 hour the parent process

[slim] SB2 Display flicker

2005-04-30 Thread slim

On the SB2 display, I noticed there are three pixels flickering, a bit
starry-like.

They are in the left corner: above middle in brightness 3, below middle in
brightness 2.
There is no flickering in brightness 4, 1 or off, so it's not the display
itself obviously.

Anyone else seen this?

Also, the display seems to glow on both sided when powered (except in the
display off state).

Just curious

[slim] Re: Multiple disc albums using DISC DISCC doesn't work.

2005-04-30 Thread dborn

Yep.

The album names are the same but I didn't move the mp3 files into the
same directory... (e.g. /mnt/music/AC-DC Live (disc 1 of 2)
/mnt/music/AC-DC Live (disc 2 of 2)). I wouldn't think that the
directory names matter..?

I used the tags disc discc but it pretty much reacts as if these
tags didn't exist. Some only have the disc tag with no discc (disc
2). I tried both settings for grouped albums and wiped cache before
each. No difference was perceived.

Also, how would the tracks appear if I chose to have all multi-disc
albums show up as single albums?

01 - track 1 of first disc
02 - track 2 of first disc
(...)
01 - track 1 of second disc
02 - track 2 of second disc
(...)

OR

01 - track 1 of first disc
01 - track 1 of second disc
(...)
02 - track 2 of first disc
02 - track 2 of second disc
(...)

I would assume #1 makes more sense musically..?

Thanks,
Daniel

a service on XP then you need to have the service log on using a user
accunt instead of the default Local System account. The Local System
account has no network privileges.

You'll also probably find it much easier using UNC network paths for
the Music directory (for example, \\ComputerName\MusicShare\) rather
than a mapped drive letter. If you run into further problems
connecting to the network share, it's probably a permission problem.
Make sure that on the computer where you have the music share you've
set the necessary permissions on all directories and files and on the
share itself.

This is not a volume issue as I do not have this problem with mp3. So I
guess it is a decoding issue.

Scanning iTunes results in extra albums, artists, and songs (the number
varies when I rescan, but varies around 15, 30 and 500 respectively).

I suspect this has to do with non-latin characters in names, as I
notice that the scan had a real problem with a German alblum with a

Still looking for a solution, but may need to revert to 6.01 if the

I installed the latest nightly (4/30) and see the new info being dumped to
the log file. See below. It's complaining abput a uninitialized value in
concatenation but seems to run. I can use MMM, make mixes, etc. and slim is
not rescanning. It does see a new cache id and the library has not changed.

Curious.

Quoting Andy Bunn [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 Curious.

thanks. the uninitialized value warnings are just warnings and harmless. They
are coming up because the debug asks for the last scan time. since you havent'
scanned since startup, its indefined.

with 6.1 nightlies, a zero in the reload interval will prevent the scan, as the
log shows. The cacheid issue is something I have sent off to Predixis as a
query. It seems that shutting down with unfinished business can cause the next
start to have a new cacheid. I dont yet know what that unfinished business
might be. at least now, with 6.1 you can leave your reload interval set to 0
and only reload when you want to manually or via the rescan plugin (auto rescan
every 24 hours and a set time)

[slim] Re: iTunes issues

2005-04-30 Thread Laz

I uninstalled slimserver, deleted the m3u playlists created by slim
server, deleted the slimserver directory, reinstalled 6.02.

At this stage I end up with 1 extra track, 2 extra albums and 2 extra
artists. I'm willing to live with this until 6.1.

Probably not a viable option if you have a substantial investment in
slim playlists. You could try editing the m3u playlists directly to
see if you have junk entries from the previous version (I haven't tried
this - YMMV).

Cheers,

Laz

[slim] Accessible thru firewall?

2005-04-30 Thread eli2k

Hi. I am on a college campus on their dormitory network. I tried using a
few plugins on Winamp to directly control which music I wanted to hear,
but the school's firewall, their NAT stuff, and port blocking prevented
that. I was wondering if this program, SlimServer, would be able to work
through that.

I am able to use ShoutCast to stream the music, but part of what I want
is to pick which songs I want to hear and then have that stream.

Thank you.

Why not just put a laptop in your trunk? 80GB hard disk. Or 2, like some
laptops let you. Run slimserver on that. Ethernet to the front,
squeezebox in the front, have to a little work to get 12V down to 5
reliably with the startup surge, use standard laptop auto power
connector for laptop.

Not sure how you'd power down the laptop gracefuly when it wasn't
needed, tho ...
