Re: [slim] Is there a way to correct this sync problem?

2009-12-20 Thread Ikabob

Thanks for trying to help with this problem. I am not real saavy with
all these terms and abbreviations (flac,aac,alac,etc.). When I am
listening to ,for instance, one radio station that is on a playlist and
then I turn on another synced SB player, the station is switched to a
previous station on the list. I then must rechange the station to the
station I was originally listening to. It's not a big problem for me but
when I demonstrating the SB stuff to friends , I have to explain what
happened and it is viewed as a flaw in the system. Just wondered if it
was something that could be corrected. By the way, I use ipeng as the
controller(which I appreciate very much).

Re: [slim] Is there a way to correct this sync problem?

2009-12-20 Thread pippin

Do you mean real Radio stations or tracks from e.g. Napster etc?
For radio stations this really should not be.
It should also never switch to a PREVIOUS track, just to the beginning
of the current one.
Are you using shuffle mode?

[slim] Controller Playback stutter

2009-12-20 Thread sombell

My set up is:

Linksys Ready NASDuo running Squeezecenter (7.4.1)
Squeeze Controller (7.4.1 r7915)
Squeezebox 3 (Firmware 130)

All the above are running 7.4.1. Both the Controller and the Squeezebox
are connected by wireless, the NASDuo is wired.

Since upgrading to this release I have persistent stutter with audio
playback through the controller.

A am certain this is NOT a wireless or server issue - I get no stutter
from the Squeezebox (therefore not wireless causing the problem), and I
DO get stutter playing BBC radio through the controller (therefore not
my squeezecenter causing it either).

I have also tried re-applying the controller update - this produced no
noticeable improvement.

Does anyone have any ideas?

It happens with real radio stations. They move to the next station on
the list and I have to restart the original station. Easy to do... Just
wondered if there could be a fix. No, I am not in shuffle mode... Those
little icons are white which I am of the opinion that white Icons mean
nonfunctional Correct? With a list from Rhapsody you are right, the
track restarts. Thanks.

In addition, I'm not sure if I understand the description: What is the

Yes, it is located elsewhere. :)

You asked about MusicInfo screen, this is a separate plugin, and KBPS
is offered there. You are looking in the SBS basic screen configuration
menu item, KBPS is not offered here.

Once you have installed the plugin go to:
SBS Settings Player Music Information Screen
In the setup/configuration portion you click on the different screen
fields to design what you want displayed, KBPS is offered in the drop
down list.

[slim] Squeeze Box server not recognizing network hard drive

2009-12-20 Thread pedalvet

Good snowy morning from the Northeast!

I've had my music files stored on a networked hard drive for some time
with no trouble. Suddenly, Squeezebox server doesn't see the library.
I can access the hard drive and all folders from the PC just fine. I've
tried power cycling the PC, router, and hard drive with no luck. On the
SB Server home page My Music doesn't show up as an option. The
network drive is mapped as drive Z, and on the basic settings page,
for Music Folder I can browse to the folder where the music is
(Z:/FLAC)with no trouble, and can see sub folders fine.

Any thoughts? I tried calling support (usually can figure out myself,
but am stumped). No love. They said the network hard drive is
unsupported.

Thanks!

search the forum for 'headphone' and 'controller' and you will find a
lot of stuff written about your problem.

In short: Controller Playback got worse with 7.4.1.
Most people get better results if they deactivate the 'Now Playing'
Screen/Screensafer which draws a lot of CPU resources.

[slim] 48khz mp3 files do not play on my SBC

2009-12-20 Thread gregwschroeder

Hello,

I'm running the 7.4.2 version of SBS (also have had the same issue w/
7.4.1) with the SBC on Ubuntu 9.10. I cannot seem to get 48khz mp3 files
to play. The web interface (and the SBC interface) seem to indicate that
a file is playing, but no sound, and the analog VU screensaver shows
zero action.

It is my understanding that the SBC will work w/ 48khz sampled files,
but I seem to be striking out.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

When I leave the controller on a static menu (such as the home one) it

Looks like you're right. He is using SBS 7.4.1 which we know also has
problems when trying to play music on the SBC.

To the OP Gregwschroeder: Are you attempting to play MP3s on your
Controller when you see this problem? If yes, playing music on the
Controller is Beta and not guaranteed to work. More over, there are real
issues with SBS 7.4.1 with music on the Controller. If you don't have an
SB Radio and want to play tunes on the Controller, fallback to SC 7.3.3
or lower.

[slim] Connecting SB3 directly to old mac mini

2009-12-20 Thread Andrew B .

I have had a Squeezebox 3 since they first came out and it has been
working fine over a wireless network, with my main study PC acting as
the server. Now that I've moved house, there are two very thick brick
walls between my router (and PC) and the lounge where the SB3 sits, with
the result that my flac files drop out all of the time. So I've decided
to try to do away with the network issue and put a small computer with
external hard drive right there in the lounge, next to the SB3. That way
I won't be relying on the wireless network.

But I can't get it to work.

I have an old Mac mini that I thought I would use to run the server
software and connect to the hard disk. It is a pre-Intel one so I had a
bit of a runaround trying to get an old version of Squeezecenter that
would run on it - I now have 7.3.4 and the server side seems fine. But I
can't seem to set the Squeezebox up to see the mac mini properly. To be
honest I can't get my head around the idea of creating a network between
the two devices that doesn't have a router involved. When I tell the SB3
that it should connect by wired ethernet then it tries to get an IP
address via DHCP but of course the mac doesn't give it one. And if I
give it a manual IP address then it asks for details like the router IP
and DNS server IP, neither of which seem to apply at all...

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Andrew

Re: [slim] Connecting SB3 directly to old mac mini

2009-12-20 Thread avta

Have you reset the SB3 to Factory Default setting? If I remember you
would unplug the power from the SB3 for about 5 minutes then hold down
the + or Add button on the remote and you should be back to the
Factory reset. If you are using and ethernet connection be sure you are
using an ethernet crossover cable not a regular ethernet cable between
your Mac Min and SB3. I've used that type of setup in the past without
problems although it was with an older version of Squeeze Server ( then
called Squeezecenter ) You would then go through setup and select
ethernet connection. Of course with that setup you would not be able to
access internet stations.

I know this isn't the main thrust of your question, but I run the beta

1GB of RAM and it's fine - much faster on 7.5 than on 7.3. That is on OS

came on it. So it's certainly possible to use it on such a relatively

Re: [slim] Connecting SB3 directly to old mac mini

2009-12-20 Thread TomS

I'm not a Mac person, but generally speaking without a DHCP server for
either device to get an IP address from, you should assign them both
static IPs in the same subnet.

That means use something like this:

IP address of mac: 192.168.1.100
subnet of mac: 255.255.255.0

IP address of SB: 192.168.1.101
subnet of SB: 255.255.255.0
gateway/etc for SB: 192.168.1.100 (if you really need to put this info
in)

Hope this helps

I have been trying to find an easy way to get MusicIP working but it
seems very complx to set up under Linux. There is no way to create a
simple setup script.

Hm. You mean I could use the Execute Script plugin to do this from
within SC/iPeng and thus would just have to add a menu for this to the
CD Player plugin?

Re: [slim] Scrobbling

2009-12-20 Thread MikeekiM

Rhapsody plays aren't scrobbling for me now... Hopefully it's a
temporary problem... I am not talking about Rhapsody channels... I am
talking about normal Rhapsody plays where you select an album to
play...

Used to scrobble just fine...

Have you called support? This is a users' forum. Some Logitech
employees do participate here at times, but it's not an official support
channel. For what it's worth, I haven't been experiencing the problems
you describe with Napster. About a year ago I had problems with Napster
stopping playback at times, but for the past 6-7 months it has been fine
(knock wood). So you shouldn't necessarily assume that it's a general
problem with the system and not something particular to your
installation. I don't have any experience with Sirius.

[slim] EPG whats on for all streaming stations

2009-12-20 Thread huytere

1) Does SB have now playing metadata support for all the apps and
internet stations? I am looking for the EPG data similar to how tv
companies store whats on - now playing in their EPG.

Assuming I have these favorite preset radio stations, which of these
support cover art, now playing EPG

2 Pandora stations
3 Shoutcast stations
5 Sirius stations
1 Xm station
1 Slacker station
2 Last.FM stations
5 Live Music Archive concerts (from archive.org)
7 RadioIO stations

My goal is to build a very simple UI. The UI will simply show all the
consolidated favorite internet stations and the now playing EPG info.
When he selects the station he wants to listen to, the cover art will be
available. Since many of these stations do not have proper cover art,
the SB should use the Amazon app to display cover art based on the
keyword of the artist (from EPG metadata).

Hope this makes sense... I realize this may be asking for a lot more
that what it was intended so please bear with me.

aber der alte stream funktioniert auch noch?!

Re: [slim] daily SBC firmware upgrades

2009-12-20 Thread Michael Herger
Even though I'm not updating server frequently both of my SBCs have a
 download almost daily.

Beta users should be ready to do this. It's what beta software is about:
getting the latest code tested. Please stick with the latest release if you
don't want to go through the few clicks needed to do the daily update.

TV's have bandwidth dedicated for that. (It was in the Vertical
Blanking Interval for NTSC, but part of the datastream for Digital).
Radio doesn't have that at all, and Internet radio depends on the
station providing that data. Some do, some don't.

For those that do and that RadioTime or Live365 or whatever support,
yes, you get now playing. These can be buried as part of the stream and
displayed by the SB, or in some cases you can do things like find all
stations playing NPR's All Things Considered, and how far into the
program they are (due to timezones and local schedules, you can tune
into All Things Considered anywhere from I think 1pm Pacific (4pm
Eastern) until 7pm Pacific (10pm Eastern).. it may actually be wider
than that.

Most of those are not stations like terrestrial radio stations: there
is no list of Pandora stations, they are all generated dynamically.
Same with Last.FM. Live Music Archive only plays what you ask it to and
there are THOUSANDS of shows. Slacker may be dynamic as well... there
really is no now playing for them unless you're, well, playing
something.

Some broadcast FM stations use a subcarrier modulation technique to
transmit text. My car can receive and display them, but they are only on
a few stations. And they must be low bandwidth, as they don't change much.

I forget the name of the technology, I remember it was popular in Europe
long before it came to the US.
