Re: [slim] Premature endings

2010-08-17 Thread carrera

Hi,
had this once ore twice, and could not find the reason.

Finally I had thoughts on my wireless repeater. When I switched that
off (I only need it for a computer downstairs) the problem was gone.

Meanwhile I am using a apple TC, and as a repeater a apple AEX, with
that setup it works fine, but it occured once again. I then restarted
my server (win xppro) and everything went well..

2010-08-17 Thread Muele

Mnyb;569710 Wrote:
Can the exclusive ploy be a way to not run out of them, before the

My guess is that you are spot on! This way Logitech can run out of
stock without having to admit it to the retailers and at the same time
perhaps preserve stock a bit longer. Better hurry out and buy now if
you want a Touch.

As for Amazon etc dumping the price. I really don't think Logitech
minds that. The gross price is set so that Logitech can cover hardware
and support and still have some profit. The more devices that are
pushed to the consumer the better for the business.

I think I have stated it before in another thread. But I think
Logitech's main problem in relation to the Squeezebox product line, is
that it is so different in comparison to most of their other product
lines. If they are unable to supply mouse X, they still have 10 other
mouse-models that are apealing to the same customers. Hence they don't
care too much about having enough stock and order product-runs in due
time. If the Touch and Receiver goes out of stock on the other hand,
they are pretty much out of business until new stock is produced. I
think management at some level has not realised that yet.

chinaski,

Random play does not work yet, but it's a planned feature and I'll
implement it in a future release.

Play Next is available as context menu.
Press-Hold on an item (song/artist/album) to open the context menu.

This will give you several options:

PLAY - Clear playlist and play selection
ADD - Add the selected item to the END of the current playlist
INSERT - Add the selected item as NEXT song to the current playlist

We changed the method of detecting the volume control capabilities,

severe interactions with the old method of detecting this.
The worst one being that a lot of non-IRBlaster users did also see the

state.
So I'm NOT going to support that old method of IRBlaster detection
again, I'm not prepared to implement a feature that helps 100 people

The new approach has been tested for quite a while and works for a lot

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2010-08-17 Thread bluegaspode

I don't think I'll be porting it to iPhone.
I'm not really sure if the simplicity can be brought to that small
screen and iPeng did a great job there already.

If one ported SqueezePad to iPhone, then we would have exactly the same
menu like a Logitech Controller full-size - switching back and forth
between menu and now-playing screen.

And guess what - people will start to give 1-3 stars because of the
lack of functionality - but if one starts to add it you are very fast
back again at multiple screens and the danger of getting lost within.

So I had to drop the price but won't get the sales numbers to make me
happy with it I gess. I'm not convinced that there is a market for a
'just like Logitech-Controller but more responsive'-App on iPhone (but
hey people chime in if you think different) !

Already with SqueezePad I start getting into trouble:
- wanting to keep it dead simple on the outside
- wanting to support more and more features

Its an endless tradeoff between two different worlds.

By the way - did you look into your private messages of this forum
(upper right) - think I wrote you some time ago about some other stuff.

Because its not needed and a total waste of time. It is similar to the
people saying, I won't buy a Squeezebox until it is N WiFi compliant.
Again, the Squeezebox doesn't need to be anything more then G.

It is your choice to have the public subnet and nothing near what the
normal user has.

The coupons they've issued twice recently for the Touch at a VERY

Regarding the comment about (paraphrasing here...)damaging the
perceived value of the squeezebox line, pulling the product from the
retail chains doesn't make sense to me. If this is what they are
after, then do like Apple and Bose - only allow the retailers to sell
the products at a certain price otherwise they lose their authorized

There's a reason for the oddball (lack of) distribution. We don't know

selling too many of them. This is a mass produced $300 consumer
product, for god's sake. Not a limited edition collectible that you
 wouldn't want selling below MSRP.

You just don't read and have no logic whatsoever. I didn't say Logitech
didn't want to sell to many of them or all that they could. I said they
didn't want the innate value of they product destroyed by cut throat
resellers that work off the principle of volume selling at $10 over
their wholesale cost! IE ruining the rest of the market for a product.
Logitech could sell millions of Touch units at $49.95, people would say
'Why not buy or own one at this price but they cost more then that to
make and support.

And nowhere did I say or imply limited edition or collectible, that was
some crazy conclusion you jumped to. Exclusively does not imply limited
edition or collectable. It means only from this source.

Did it ever occur to you that Logitech is getting back to what worked
in the beginning for Slim Devices as in selling Exclusively from a
website? Probably not because you are to busy not reading the post
correctly or injecting words that were never said much less mentioned.

Personally, I think that selling through Amazon, JR, Crutchfield, etc.
worked better and was a huge step forward. I didn't like the fact that
I had to pay full price plus shipping and that I had to wait for a
shipment to arrive from California to New Jersey. Having the item
available at other retailers also gives exposure - I regularly go to
the Amazon website for books, CD, etc. I have no reason to frequent
the Logitech website.

As I said earlier, I think there are better ways to handle the
preceived value of the product, like forcing authorized resellers to a
certain price range, but allow small discounts.

A more useful angle to this might be:

Should squeezebox be able to reach Internet Radio streams that are
sitting on ipv6 addresses? This may well be possible already, if
everything is proxying through the SBS (wether thats a local SBS or
mysb.com shouldn't matter).

Otherwise I see little benefit of SB (in general) supporting IPv6
anytime soon. As far as as I know, no one *didn't buy one* because it
lacks IPv6.

IPv6 will come. Some day.

this via the last.fm plugin on my squeezeboxes. It works fine with
Vagalume on my N900 or via the website.

Anyone else notice this?

This will never happen on the older players. Radio/Touch run Linux so
it's possible it already works, if not it would be pretty easy to
enable. Patches welcome.

We have decades before this is an issue for most people. Sure, IPv6 is
coming, and a lot faster than the ISPs think. But they will still do
local IPv4/Nat inside your home network, because there are far too many
things already in use that won't support it.

The technology is there, nearly all important OS support dual stack
today. But the ISPs have to do serious investment both at their
CO/switches and every home router/modem has to be replaced. This will
take years to roll out.

Hmmm, I just tried (in the US), and I'm listening to last.fm streaming
(under myapps). I'm running a TRANSPORTER connected to SbS 7.5.2 (on

I believe the subscription requirement only applies to people outside

Re: [slim] [Announce] iPeng 1.2.5 now on the App Store

2010-08-17 Thread pippin

iPeng 1.2.5.1 is now available on the App Store.
It fixes some bugs in 1.2.5, most notably:
• iPeng will no longer switch the active player when becoming active
from the background
• More distinguishable active player
• Cover art thumbs now also show in full resolution on iPad
• Proximity sensor support with “Prevent Standby” no longer requires an
App restart to switch state

i did install V1.48 and found a cover bug. Just mark cover flow and no
chance to load covers. Also mini Covers in playlist do not appear.

If you unmark Cover Flow than all is correct.

As Andy said Last.fm require us to:

- only allow streaming to subscribers
- only allow streaming to select countries
- enforce country limitation by checking the client's IP address

These limitations have only been implemented on test.mysb.com yet.
