[slim] Sky.fm Premium app issue

2012-01-13 Thread Ikabob

For a while the Sky.fm premium app is not accessible from the app

wondering if this issue is soon to be resolved . I enjoy the service

possible if anyone should know. Cheers, Rich

Hmmm, I'm not at home so can't check my readynas duo. But I'm almost
positive that ITUNES itself can't be installed on the readynas. There
is a program on the READYNAS that can stream your itunes music, etc.
(maybe an itunes share, I forget, because I don't use it) and the music
files can certainly be on your NAS. Best approach I think is to simply
install itunes on the laptop (don't move anything, just install from
apple website). Then point your itunes library location to the files on
the NAS.

But I could be entirely wrong on this because although I have a
readynas duo, I use it only for some file storage and not for itunes or
SbS/LMS. Good luck getting it straightened out.

2012-01-13 Thread andynormancx

Just because the iTunes music files or program files are on your share
on the NAS, it doesn't mean iTunes is _installed_ on your NAS.

If you are running iTunes on your laptop then it is installed on your
laptop. If you are running the program files from the NAS share, that
is probably not a good idea.

And no, iTunes cannot be installed on your NAS.

[slim] album artwork, tagging etc

2012-01-13 Thread jbloewheedle

Hi:
I am running squeezebox server on a Mac G5. All my music sits on an
external hard drive and is 95% flac format files that have been
converted from CD. Some were converted using dbpoweramp and some using
another software (cant remember the name, it was shareware).
The files that were done with dbpoweramp mostly seem to have artwork,
others don't. A few CD's seem to have gone into a folder of their own
that have the flac's and a jpg with artwork. not sure how this
happened.
Can someone recommend a mac compatible software that can tag artwork
and organize files? When i look at the main directory it is just a
bunch of flac files, not organized by artist or album. However it seems
to come into squeezebox fine, without artwork.
Thanks

Re: [slim] anything new from CES

2012-01-13 Thread aubuti

I would be very surprised if Logitech ever comes out with any new SB
models. They may eventually catch on to the Airplay trend, or whatever
the successor to Airplay will be. Maybe they'll sell off the line, or
maybe they'll just let it die. That said, if you mostly use SBs for
playing your own library and/or internet radio, what would you lose if
SBs were completely abandoned tomorrow? What new developments do you
need to invest further?

The story is a bit different for those who depend on mysqueezebox.com,
either as an alternative to running a local LMS or as the background
intermediary that makes subscription services like Rhapsody work. In
those cases the usefulness of SBs would be diminished or even
obliterated if SBs were orphaned.

Considering that they have managed to get rid of most people that had
knowledge in the product I'm extremely skeptical if anyone would be
willing to acquire the product line, feels like they either have to
start investing in it themselves or continue to let it die slowly.

It would surprise me if Logitech released a high end model, but it
wouldn't surprise me if they released some new model in similar or
lower price range than the Radio.

AirPlay devices and Sonos ? If not, what's the alternative ?

There are some new hardware announced now and then from other vendors,
but there are a lot of Squeezebox users and I believe most are quite
happy with the devices, so except for Airplay devices and Sonos I don't
really see any other strong competitor.

It would probably be possible to develop a third party Rhapsody plugin
if necessary, it's just that it doesn't make much sense to do it as
long as Logitech keeps providing it. However, if Logitech would
shutdown mysqueezebox.com, it wouldn't surprise me if some third party
plugins for SBS/LMS would released for the most important services

I suspect that:
- Most people that use mysqueezebox.com is probably expecting it to be
available for free as that's what they have got from Logitech.
- Most people that would be willing to pay for it are probably running
a local SBS/LMS and don't want to rely on a central server.

Everything is possible but to me it feels like this can be pretty
unreliable or very complex.

However, it's important to realize that as far as I know there are no
indication what so ever that Logitech is about to shutdown
mysqueezebox.com, so let's start to worry about this when there is
actually some indications that it's about to happen.

Re: [slim] anything new from CES

2012-01-13 Thread Juggler

This is sad that we all seem to be giving up on them. I don't think
AirPlay is a true alternative--one major limitation is that you cannot
easily have zones if you're using iTunes as your library. iTunes can
only play one song at a time.

To me the beauty of the Squeezebox system was that it was multi-zone,
relatively open (see the large number of plugins developed) and the HW
was good quality.

As for hardware, I'm looking for a headless player, one that can sit in
my A/V cabinet. It would be good to see Logitech also develop another
high-end player, but horses might fly.

Maybe you can use my experience with this:

I also had a problem with the encryption password on my Wi-Fi when I
got my first Duet. So, in my case my password was e.g. like this
1234567890123456. This I had to enter on the Duet as the ASCII code,
which in practice meant that I added the number 3 in front of each
digit, i.e. 31323334353637 (because the character 2 is 32
ASCII). If your password is other than numbers you need to convert
those using the ASCII table.

Just to rule out the obvious, you are still using a wired (ethernet)
connection between the server and the new router, right?

The router manual makes no mention of WOL, but I agree it sounds as if
it is failing to relay the WOL packet to the server. Have you tried
doing WOL using one of the many utilities available? I expect it won't
work either, but it's worth checking just to rule out the possibility
that there's some new problem with the SB that happens to coincide with
the new router's arrival.

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest Asus forums and/or tech support.

players to sync via the web interface for your squeezebox server,
Orange Squeeze lets you control multiple players as far as on/off and
volume up and down, and tracks selected and then played via Orange

I have 2 x Squeezebox Radios, an Android mobile phone and an Archos
tablet, all now playing the same playlist that I just created via my
tablet. I can turn any of the devices on/off from Orange Squeeze on the
tablet, and change the volume for each of the devices independantly from
Orange Squeeze on the tablet.

After listening to a few tracks, the Android devices, both using
SqueezePlayer, seem to have become a little bit out of sync, there are
several posts about the limitations of sync with software players on
Andriod such as SqueezePlayer in another thread, e.g.
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=670067postcount=307

(My two hardware radios are still in perfect sync though)

This info might not suit your needs exactly, but maybe others might
find it useful.

Considering that they have managed to get rid of most people that had

I think there are parts of the product line that a buyer might find
valuable, possibly to build upon further or merge with some other
product. Or to sit on it and eliminate a competitor.

Is there anything else out there that have a brighter future except for
AirPlay devices and Sonos ? If not, what's the alternative ?

There are some new hardware announced now and then from other vendors,
but there are a lot of Squeezebox users and I believe most are quite
happy with the devices, so except for Airplay devices and Sonos I don't
really see any other strong competitor.
Well if you choose not to consider Airplay and Sonos -- that is the
_strongest_ competitors -- then yes, it is hard to see any strong
competitors. I think AirPlay has the big momentum at this point.
Juggler is right that AirPlay isn't the same thing as SB, but for a lot
of people that doesn't matter. Either they don't care about multi-room,
or they have their server in their hand in the form of an iPhone, iPad,
or iPod. Current SB owners are unlikely to give up what they have for
that, but for new customers it's where the market is clearly going.
Look at all the AirPlay-enabled audio components that have come out in
the past year.

It would probably be possible to develop a third party Rhapsody plugin
if necessary, it's just that it doesn't make much sense to do it as
long as Logitech keeps providing it. However, if Logitech would
shutdown mysqueezebox.com, it wouldn't surprise me if some third party
plugins for SBS/LMS would released for the most important services
 which is provided through mysqueezebox.com.
I hope that's true. For that to work I would expect that one also needs
to work out the agreements with Rhapsody, Pandora, etc. It requires more
than an API and some coding.

Re: [slim] album artwork, tagging etc

2012-01-13 Thread jbloewheedle

I have to admit that my database is somewhat of a mystery. i think that
it is because i converted to flac using 2 different programs
(dbpoweramp and the other one I cant remember). the only thing that
seems to read everything is squeezebox server, but without artwork.
None of the other software seems to be able to read all the files,
dbpoweramp sees them but there are no tags on ones it didnt convert,
and media monkey doesnt see the dbpoweramp songs.WEIRD.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-01-13 Thread rcampbel3

Since I like to support the community, I bought your app and installed
it on a Nook Color running CM7.1

General feedback is that it's quite usable. I really like how you've
made it clear which tab you're on and where you'll be by swiping left
and right. Wasn't sure if I wanted a 'rollover' mode like ipeng, but
after some use I think it's clearer with just 3 tabs.

I feel like some of the UI elements could be resized for devices with
more screen real estate than a phone like 7 and larger tablets.

Also, a request -- make it SUPER EASY to jump right to favorites. I
have a pretty large favorites list split into directories and most of
my use of LMS and squeezeboxes involves navigating my favorites menu.

Thanks!
