I don't think it has anything to do with the server version - this
sounds more like a problem on the app side. I haven't tested it yet but
it doesn't suprise me since the playlist is updated every few seconds to
catch changes made in

Yes iTunes has AirPlay built in and yes it works on a Windows PC as

In the Apple universe the best way to do that is to use the appropriate
app on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and use AirPlay to send it to the
AirPort.
