Re: [slim] Dear Squeezebox, still love you

2012-03-05 Thread JonWill

Just felt I should add my love... Used from the moment we wake up to the
moment we go to sleep - loved by the children (and used by the 5 year
old up) - they have totally transformed my relationship with music.

After becoming a grown up I lost the space for music in my life which
I have only just rediscovered... and am now spending more time and money
on it!

There was a blogpost about the Squeezebox by someone from Logitech's
marketing on their official blog a couple of days ago

Haha... thanks for the pointer! I didn't even know that!

I guess this could imply they are not trying to make the Squeezebox
 disappear.

Yes, they don't try to make it disappear.

[slim] Is there a way to force-refresh a podcast on LMS?

2012-03-05 Thread Steinar Bang
Platform:
 Logitech Media Server Versjon: 7.7.1 - r33750 @ Mon Dec 12 09:42:47 PST 2011
 OS: Windows XP

Right now an Opera subscription directly to the podcast RSS stream shows
that today's episode of the podcast is in place.

But LMS still shows the old version of the available podcasts episodes
for the feed, ie. the last available episode is the one from friday.
And re-visiting the podcast doesn't make it update.

Is there a way to forcibly update the podcast? Ie. something similar to
shift-reload in many browsers...?

Thanks!

Re: [slim] My wife is forcing me to use iTunes

2012-03-05 Thread garym

Zac;694065 Wrote:
For the past 5 years or so alll of my music has been stored in a 'My
Music' folder, all as flac files.

I also have a separate itunes music folder somewhere (where ever itunes
has chosen) with many many duplicates which were - until now - copied
 from cds.

Recently my wife and sons have been buying from itunes - and they want
to play the music on the main (SB) system.

I have searched and read the myryan files on itunes integration but am
 still confused.

If I go the multiple library route (not sure how but understand I can)
then most music will be listed twice? I could live with this although
nit sure when selecting how I would know I was selecting the flac
 version and not the mp3.

It would be great on the front screen to be able to select either 'my
music' or 'itunes music' and have SB look in different folders on
 command.

 Any thoughts? Thanks

install erland's multilibrary plugin.

better yet (and what I do), when they buy itunes music, simply copy
those files over to your permanent library. Set it up like follows:

x:\my music (top directory for your library)
x:\my music\flac\(location of all your flac files
x:\my music\lossyonly (location of all the mp3/aac files you own that
do NOT have FLAC versions)
x:\someotherdirectory\lossymirror (this is where you keep your mp3
copies of FLAC files.

So point your LMS at x:\my music and you'll pick up your FLAC files and
the mp3/aac files that are unique.

For itunes, point itunes at x:\lossymirror as the library. But then
also navigate to x:\lossyonly and do a directory add to add all
these files to your itunes library. When done, the itunes library will
have all the mp3/aac files.

Another approach would be to have wife/kids install LMS on their own
computer. Give it a unique name in LMS Settings (Wife's Music Library).
Then when they want to play their own music, they can go to my music
then to switch library, then scroll down and select Wife's music
Library.

Re: [slim] Slacker stoppages anyone?

2012-03-05 Thread virgiliomi

I never had any problems with Slacker when I was using LMS on my
ReadyNAS. Unfortunately, I'm waiting for a warranty replacement, so in
the meantime, I've been using LMS on my Macbook. But Slacker has been
much less reliable going through LMS on the Mac, as I've had it stop
after 2 songs, after 3 songs, after 5 songs, and once it made it
through my full 40 minute alarm period without stopping. Then this
morning I never heard anything... no Slacker, no backup alarm, no
nothing, and ended up waking up 30 minutes late. I can't say that I've
run into any issues listening outside of the alarm period though.

I'm planning on switching to MySB for the next couple of days, until I
get my ReadyNAS back up and running (the replacement unit should be
coming in today).

Re: [slim] Dear Squeezebox, still love you

2012-03-05 Thread RonM

Count me in, too.

I had long pined for a way to play digitized music through my stereo
system, other than by burning CDs. I stumbled upon the Duet somewhere,
and the rest all followed.

Original Duet replaced by a Transporter sourced on eBay, with that Duet
in storage pending future need. Second Duet services music needs on the
home theater system. Two Booms in active use in various places, usually
outside on the verandah and my home office. A third is in storage
against future needs, bought from the UK with a European plug (I'm in
Canada), when another Boom dies, I will use its plug).

I bought a spare Controller when Logitech Canada sold them cheap
(against future needs again), but often find myself using the app for
the BlackBerry playbook to control the system.

I love this system, and can't imagine my musical life without it. Or
something similar.

Am writing this on vacation in Belize, sitting on my deck watching the
Caribbean and the light rain, listening to music on my Boom, run
through a direct wifi connection to my netbook (what win7 calls an ad
hoc connection), which contains my entire music collection converted
to high end mp3s from lossless.

Ron

Re: [slim] My wife is forcing me to use iTunes

2012-03-05 Thread rayman1701

Or if you want simple, why not just make a copy of the songs purchased
in iTunes into your LMS library and make a playlist with all of the
iTunes songs. That way the iTunes songs would be in the LMS library,
but if they wanted to listen just those songs it would be easy for them
to find. Or even a few playlists with the iTunes songs, Wife, Son 1,
Son 2 ect. Might be a lot simpler than doing the multi-library and if
they just want the songs in LMS and don't mind looking thru your music
and vice versa, it might work.

Re: [slim] Logitech Blog post on the Squeezebox

2012-03-05 Thread autopilot

If they do release any new Squeezebox devices they need a major rebrand.
Completely drop the name 'Logitech' from the device and marketing and
relaunch as a completely standalone brand, with a dedicated
Squeezebox.com site and no association to Logitech at all. That's the
only way HiFi enthusiasts will start showing an interest again. I know
it's more complicated than that, some proper investment would help too,
but seriously Logitech; you are a great brand (well you bought some
great brands; Harmony, Ultimate ears et al) but you are in no way cool,
interesting or synonymous with high quality audio equipment.

The marketing team could counteract this by at least being slightly
visible on this forum... The fact that there is no official presence

dropping off in recent years. Its not too late, but I would encourage

thanks to each of you for the suggestions. Sorry for my delayed
response, I'm in Australia and time zones add a bit of a delay...

The simplest would be to just copy whatever music they download into
ther SB directory but they are often single songs and it is becoming
more and more a painas the kids get older any download more.

I like the directory structure and will try that - as long as I can
make it idiot proof (its ok they don't read this forum!)so if we copy a
cd into itunes it will go into one directory (as mp3 copies of flac
files) and if they download it goes into a shared folder where both
itunes and SB can read it.

Do I have that right?

Thanks again

2012-03-05 Thread virgiliomi

Ok... so got my replacement ReadyNAS today... just got it up and running
(all data still intact, so I don't have to recopy everything!)... so of
course, first thing I do is make sure LMS is still all working. All
looks well... did a media rescan anyway, just for grins. Stopped LMS on
the Mac and reconnected all to my ReadyNAS.

Then proceeded to play Slacker on one of them... got 3 songs in, and
stop. At the end of the 3rd song, it stopped playing. This isn't during
my alarm period, and it's on my SB Radio, not my Boom. Is this a
Logitech/MySB issue, or is it a Slacker issue?

ReadyNAS is running LMS 7.7.2 r33808, since I haven't yet gotten a
chance to download the latest nightly and put that on. Mac was also
running a 7.7.2 build.

How do you install the test version on ics? I tried the zip but it
 fails to open?

Download on your phone, use some file manager to start it.

See

(but use above link instead!)
