ralphy wrote: This is a non-standard build, you've enabled aac and are not using the supplied portaudio. compile flags: linux *portaudio:1899* debug signals daemon *aac* Ah - I'm a gentoo user so I'd installed it via that. I had a dig thru the ebuild - hoping it was just a simple wrapper around your makefiles, but it's quite a rewrite :( I can turn off aac with use flags (the way gentoo handles configuration of packages) but it seems the ebuild author has written the ebuild to forcibly use the gentoo portaudio package. So I downloaded your prebuilt binary (linux26) and tried using that, but it seems to hang in a similar way. And then I tried the source, edited the makefile to remove the -DUSE_SIGNALS_FOR_RESTART as mentioned in an earlier post (and commented out the -DINTERACTIVE and LIBS line for curses and lirc, and also removed them from the buildall call to gcc), and that seems to work better, but still if left idle for a few minutes it sometimes goes silent, and has to be killed and restarted to resume playing although not hung as before - it's still producing log messages and can be killed without a SIGKILL. That version reports compile flags: linux portaudio:1608 debug daemon renice Any suggestions of anything else I can try, or do to help diagnose it? [slim] M4a (sorry)
First: apologies. There have been countless posts dealing with m4a issues, but the forum search isn't recognising 'm4a' (or mp4). Does anyone still have a link to a (the?) thread describing how to play m4a files? Received an m4a file from a performer's website sign-up, and SBS recognises it as an m4a file, recognises performer name, song title, picture, and the lyrics (which surprised me) and reports the file as being: File format: mp4 Bitrate: 256kbps CBR (Converted to 705.6kbps ABR) Sample size: 16 bit But my SBR plays no sound - though its LED is showing bright white (it is receiving) and the SBS web UI shows the track being played - ie, the time-bar moves onwards. In SBS, the file type settings for MP4 are: AAC - Native FLAC - faad/flac MP3 - faad/lame PCM - faad Neither, incidentally, does Squeezeplay play the track, on a (wired) windows PC. I think I recall seeing something about inserting a transcode in a convert.conf file in previous threads. Could anyone point me to a relevant thread or, maybe, some instructions? And sorry for asking about something which I think is already solved, if I could only find it. regards, Atlantic Atlantic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44239 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95072 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'd suggest working with trunk for starters which is currently at r325. I see no issues with the makefile changes, but you'll need to make them again for trunk. Then I'd suggest updating the portaudio library version to r1826. Re: [slim] SqueezeRemote for nokia phones
Not sure why I have never spotted this before, but... awesome. Apart from one thing. I have 2 players. I can only seem to control the one in the bedroom which is not the one I want to remote control. If I turn the one in the bedroom off I can get it to contorl the one in the lounge but as soon as I plug it back in again, I'm back to controlling the bedroom :( I thought perhaps it was picking the first one alphabetically (bedroom vs lounge), so I renamed it upstairs. No joy. Then I thought perhaps it was picking the first IP, but the lounge is .11 and bedroom is .12 so it wasn't that. If anyone can figure out how it chooses which one to control and how I can fool it, I'd be a very happy bunny. charlesr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3312 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81848 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

SBS 7.4 One of the previous threads (had) suggested - if I recall correctly - that M4a is served to the player losslessly and that, if PCM was used, a wireless-connected player might struggle. But since the file doesn't play through Squeezeplay, either, on a wired PC, I think I've a more-serious problem. I'm happy to try to transcode it to, say, Mp3/320. I think I'll search for transcoding and see how to do that. Re: [slim] M4a (sorry)
bpa wrote: There have been a number of m4a related fixes since 7.4 bpa, that is a quite-compelling reason to upgrade. Hadn't done so, Gary, because (i) the system just runs very well, and (ii) upgrades are a little disruptive with plug-ins - some of the extras we use have quite different versions for the later releases. Apart from, as well, the time it takes, and not being entirely sure whether you had to remove the old, etc, so researching the steps, safeguarding a fallback strategy; upgrading is a 'project' in itself, really, in the context that the existing installation is working so well and giving the family good service. I just trust it. But I can see that upgrading may be necessary, especially if sampler and publicity material is going to be released in the future in m4a files. I'm going to dig around for a transcode solution, though - I'd like to know how to do that, anyway. Thinking about it, I could probably do a conversion offline (it's the only m4a file I have) with any of several utilities already on the box, even if I cannot persuade my SBS to do it 'on the fly'. regards, Atlantic Atlantic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44239 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95072 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Makes sense (not upgrading). I have a number of m4a files and they all play fine with no special settings. But in the distant past I had some issues with a ready nas duo. That's why I asked if you were using a nas or low powered computer. if so, that could be the issue. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95072 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
