Re: [slim] Possible to convert your favourites list to a playlist?

2012-06-11 Thread sherington

Hi,

I had this issue since Winamp is one of the players I use from time to
time, I searched on the Winamp site for a plugin - they have something
that allows you to create a playlist, as normal, and then export that as
a saved m3u file to any external player. The plugin creates a file
item - save playlist complete which transferres the list, or exports
to anything. I actually use it, in conjunction with MusicIP which
creates the playlists - I then see that in Winamp use the save
playlist complete to transfer that to a Rockboxed iPod, and save it to
my Playlists folder so that the Squeezeserver can see it.

Sounds much more complicated than it really is - in all, creation of a
new playlist saving/transferring takes no more tha a couple of
minutes!

Hope that helps!

You highlight the menu you want to hide, press the + button. Then

[slim] Cheapest option for hardware to run iPeng?

2012-06-11 Thread mobileadam

Hi,

We have iPeng on a couple of iPhones around the house but as our
squeezebox environment grows I'm looking for something dedicated in one
part of the house that can ideally run iPeng but not at too great a
cost. I have just ordered a new battery for my controller (3rd one) and
that will cover some control in one part of the house but the interface
is different so we don't really use that anymore. So I want a iTouch or
whatever they are called I guess, unless there is another device that
can run iPeng?

Assuming only the Apple solution is an option is there a minimum year
/spec I should look out for on eBay? We use iPhone 4 at home but I have
no idea about the iTouch thingies and don't want to spend much more then
100 pounds.

Any suggestions greatly received.

Adam

What you're probably looking for is an iPod touch (Apple and their
fuNky captiLization...), sometimes called an iTouch. To keep costs
down, look for a refurbished one at Apple.com or elsewhere. I can highly
recommend the 3rd Generation iPod touch. If you're mostly using it for
remote control of SB and not for playing music on its own, then you can
also save money by getting one without much RAM. I got one with 32GB
because it doubles as my portable player when I travel -- if you don't
have that need then an 8GB model would be fine.

Try pressing holding the BACK (left) arrow, this will put the SB3 in
Setup mode. Scroll to Network Setup, select Wireless.

If it isn't offering Wireless as an option then possibly it's WiFi board
is fried or disconnected.

I can only agree with aubuti. iPod Touch 3G is perfectly fine.
BUT: you have to be careful, there are no 3rg Generation models with 8
GB, I believe, they only come in 32 an 64 GB variants, 8GB is only for
2nd and 4th Gen.
I do NOT recommend the 2ng Gen Models anymore. They work but are slower
and I might discontinue support for them end of this year or so,
depending on how iOS development goes on.

We just got my daughter a current generation 8GB iPod Touch (4th gen I
believe) for $170 from Amazon. I'm shocked at how the price has come
down. This was even less expensive than a refurb of the same model from
Apple.

Local stores in our area have had them price similarly. Look out for
deals.

Yea. People don't buy as many as before since now everybody has a
smartphone. Plus it's now almost two years on the market which will
probably have brought down their cost significantly

You are probably right and I'm misremembering - I had a problem with *A*

No way to test if that's still happening, it'd be a bummer if it still
was. I believe the source-stream did some non-standard encoding, or
used a CODEC in a way that was unexpected.

Good thread - I might pick up a few cards as spares to keep around.
WIFI equipment has a tendency of failing after a few years for some
reason, it's just not very reliable stuff (You say? When produced at
the absolutely lowest-cost possible!?!?).

Reprogrammed the Xilinx thing (microcontroller?), and appears to still
be working fine. I've seen it randomly reboot previously, however, so
I'm thinking a new WIFI card might be in order anyway. $7, WTH.

Forgot to mention you can unhide via. Settings - Home Menu, so its not

I'm guessing this won't help as the request was to hide the Settings
menu itself and I don't think the Settings menu and it sub menus can be
hidden this way, at least it doesn't work on my Touch.

I'm down on this option, but I may have just had bad luck.

I got a refurbed iPod Touch and the battery stopped recharging pretty
quickly.

I wish the dang things had a user-replaceable battery.

You can get a refurbed Android tablet, root and flash Ice Cream Sandwich
and use the Logitech app for about the same price.

I will say that iPeng HD is the best tablet app period.

A shot in the dark: try changing (temporarily) the channel used by the
 wifi router ?

Thanks - I've never used MAC address filtering as I read it added no
significant security, just pain. I'll have a go with the channel
though, it's worth a try.

If I start it with the Ethernet cable in doing a factory reset by
pressing the Add button, I get to choose the language, then 'Set up
networking', going right on this goes onto Obtain IP automatically...so
that's passed or skipped the option to select Wireless?

Then using the BACK (left) button as you say suggest takes me through
the same sequence, with no wireless option.

I can see that a power interruption could damage, but not displace the
WiFi board...I hope not though :-(

Thanks for the advice

Re: [slim] Cheapest option for hardware to run iPeng?

Yes, and it still does.
It does not support iOS 5, though. And while I currently don't see a
reason to move the App to iOS 5 only (there were much bigger changes
between 3 and 4) I still can't guarantee that there well not be a reason
to remove support for the older devices in future updates.

Already today, synchronization doesn't really work on 2nd gen devices if
you use the playback, that only really works well on devices that
support multitasking (and I don't even know why, could as well be the
processor).

Good point, because there is some confusion out there in the secondary
markets. As explained on wikipedia:

Following the introduction of the 3rd generation iPod Touch, Apple also
continued offering the 2nd generation 8 GB version, upgraded to the same
iPhone OS version as the new 3rd generation devices. The iPod Touch (3rd
generation) is model A1318. Apple as well sold many refurbished iPod
Touch 2nd generation models with the 3rd generation software effectively
making them a 3rd generation unit. These can be identified by having a
maximum installable version of iOS 4.2.1.
