OK My last suggestions. The Squeeze Audio Device 14650 Or as requested by Jackof All The Community Squeeze 14651 I like the name Squeeze Audio Device the best. I use an HP Microserver N40L in the UK they often sell these cheap with a cashback offer. I use a Linux operating system (ClearOS) and I have 3 drives configured as a RAID 5 array using software RAID. Works great, I was worried about using software RAID as opposed to a hardware RAID controller until I saw the price of a hardware RAID controller which is expensive and when I read most home NAS units use Software RAID I went that way. bert1e's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1419 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98350 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Community Squeeze Logo
But what about my existing Squeezebox's? Am I expected to rename them and start referring to them with a different name? Or will I end up with a mixture of Squeezebox's and Squeeze Device's (or whatever). Sorry but I personally feel this whole naming and rebranding thing has gotten a bit ridiculous. IMO, just refer to them a 'SB's and move on. autopilot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1763 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98339 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Is this why Logitech dropped the squeezebox concept ? https://www.spotify.com/uk/blog/archives/2012/10/10/spotify-is-your-samsung-smart-tvs-new-best-friend/ £10 a month and all the music you could want (if they have it), guy at work has it and says it's brilliant, can import and edit playlists, discover new music etc He was thinking of getting a sonos, but when he saw the spotify app appear on his tv his music listening changed, he was amazed at how well it works. no need for libraries of music or different systems it's all there. [slim] Slimserver Issue/Imac
I have a Transporter and a Squeezebox2 and three that I haven't used in many years. I absolutely loved them and they worked wonderfully until I downloaded 6.5 many moons ago. I got so fed up with the bugs, crashes etc. that I packed them away and switched to Sonos. After using Sonos for a while I ran into the dreaded 65,000 track limit that I didn't know even existed. I then had to shorten the tags on all of my classical files. This bought me a short period of time and I have been deleting music ever since! I have had a tremendous amount of music that I can't listen to for way too long now. So I finally bit the bullet and downloaded Slimserver (version 7.7.2 I think) yesterday. I immediately encountered a problem which is how these things seem to go for me. My Imac shows the Icon in system preferences but a dummy box pops up that says: To use the Logitech Media Server preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen. I then have to hit cancel or o.k. and that is all that it allows me to do which accomplishes absolutely nothing! I figured a restart was needed to get past this but this resulted in the same situation. Is there any other way to get the software to open other than system preferences? I did a hard drive search but all I see is the dmg file. It is just beyond shocking to me that the Squeezebox2 that I bought in 2006 worked just wonderfully streaming with it's Slimserver software. It was rock solid and this got me hooked on computer audio and it has been one issue after another ever since. I should also warn that I am very far from tech minded in these things. Many thanks for any help or info. rp9197's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7754 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98383 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Vortexbox NAS hardware recommendations?
Many years ago I setup a RAID5 system, primarily becausae 1TB had just come out and they were horrendously expensive, my local computer store had 256G drives dirt cheap, so I bought 6 of them and put them in a RAID5 array using linux software RAID (actually only 4, the other two were spares). The primary reason for doing this was not for the protection, but so I had one large volume so I didn't have to worry about what songs went on which disk. Yes I only had 750G, but that was enough. By using software RAID it was a portable array. That array has been used on three different motherboards and a couple different linux OS versions. Once TB drives became cheaper I started backing it up on a TB drive. I had to replace one of the drives, it went without a hitch, just put in one of the spares and run the software and it rebuilt the array. After many years something catastrophic happened, a disk went bad and the array could not be rebuilt. I never did find out why. At that point I decided it was high time to retire the array, took the whole library, put it on a tiny drive inside a FITPC2 and put vortexbox on it. It works great and fits in the palm of my hand! Today I would never do that array, large drives are available cheap enough to hold the whole thing on one drive. I do a full backup on an external drive at regular intervals, every so often I need it. It's been awhile since I have taken one off site, I probably need to do that. John S. Re: [slim] Vortexbox NAS hardware recommendations?
If you want a fairly simple, effective amp; fairly cheap backup option you could look at a service such as crashplan. For about #163;35 a year I've got unlimited back up storage with versioning in case I duff something up myself. I also do an occasional USB drive backup too. Your first upload will take a while but after that it just syncs changes / new files each night. yannyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98350 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] spotify smart tv
I agree - I don't want to have to turn on my TV to listen to music. However, Spotify has changed how I use my SBs. I have basically stopped maintaining my local music library and only have a library of specific artists and albums that are not on Spotify. So I now use my SBs in one of three modes: Spotify, local music or internet radio. I still need the SBs for the latter two. [slim] Is there an out of the box replacement for a Duet reciever?
I currently have a Duet controller, and two receivers As I don't use the system for anything other than streaming music from my PC to my home theaters and mobile devices, I'm hoping to continue with this delivery system for years to come Is there currently another product available that would act as a third receiver , out of the box? I've seen some DIY solutions on the boards, but these frankly, appear beyond what I can do TIA Eddie yesongs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21401 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98384 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Another second hand squeezebox , it does not have to be a receiver the controller can happily comunicate with any of the squeezeboxes SB2 SB3/Classic Touch ? They have a bit more functionality than you want but hey can do everything the reciever does . Re: [slim] Squeezebox Classic No Power to Screen/Toslink lit up -- what gives?
Well after getting another PSU unit just in case and trying that and it's still not powering up, I've decided to give up on resurrecting the unit. Clearly there's something wrong with the voltage adjustment and perhaps a capacitor went bad. Wish I knew enough about the board layout to try and replace the faulty one, but without it, it'd be a guessing game at best. Sucks. Panel works fine as well as the wifi so may part those out on Ebay.
