Hi I'm having some trouble getting squeezeplayer to output to the right device. I'm trying to use it on my HTPC connected to my TV via HDMI running XBMCbuntu (a cut down ubuntu distribution with a LXDE desktop that you can optionally boot to). If I just boot straight to XBMC the hdmi audio isn't displayed by squeezeslave -L however if I boot even to the login screen where you can chose which desktop environment to load I get the expected output and I can use squeezeslave just fine. Re: [slim] SqueezeyTunes - NEW! Remote control app for Blackberry PlayBook
Testing is much easier on the device as you get a proper feel for what is finger sized, I was quite surprised how different the real device was to the simulator. I would guess you need to increase font size for things like Album and Artist text by 20% and similarly increase the height of the rows by that much and add some more spacing between the play and add to playlist icons. Also most apps don't keep their top menus on display all the time, they use the swipe down action for that. Your top menu would fit right in with the look of the native swipe menus and clicking the config button would take you to a full screen settings page. A good example of the native look and feel would be the device settings menu which is available in the simulator AFAIK. Swipe diagonally from the top left to see what I mean. -- Jaicee Jaicee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45802 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87671 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SqueezeyTunes - NEW! Remote control app for Blackberry PlayBook
Nice work, I hope you got one of the free dev playbooks for this. Couple of points of feedback. *If you turn on a SB after starting up the app it doesn't appear in the players dropdown. *Albums and artists could do with being cached, it shouldn't have to take all that time to populate the list every time you go into artists or albums. *Artists and albums text is too small, the artwork could do with being much bigger and finger friendly. *The playlist text is too small, there's lots of room in each line to increase it. *Volume up and down isn't graduated enough, you can click it several times without the visual indicator going up. *If you select an artist there's no way to go back to the artist list at the place you were at *No shuffle/repeat controls *Could do with being smoother scrolling -- Jaicee Jaicee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45802 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87671 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The routers with visible external antenna often allow those antenna to be replaced with bigger perhaps directional antenna which might help if your garden is very big but realistically if you can site the extender at a window you shouldn't have range problems unless there are trees in the way (leaves are great at soaking up wireless signals). -- Jaicee Jaicee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45802 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87094 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Android Controller App
Thanks for the explanation Michael that makes more sense. I would say though that it might be worth considering changing the implementation as you must know it really is quite slow compared to just about any other controller apps. Even though its not ideal pagination would IMHO be far better than the slowness that is currently exhibited. I think the real problem though is that its a web app yet this is not obvious when using it. I expected a native app where the buttons would respond instantly rather than a web page where the expectation is that things take longer to react. I know its not what you'd want to hear but I think you should consider whether a web app is the best platform for a controller? I may of course be totally wrong about this and there may be devices that can deal with the JS you are using and be smooth but the reviews on the marketplace suggest this isn't the case. Saying the app is free is a bit disingenuous, its there presumably to encourage sales of your hardware. I know one of the reasons I recently purchased a SBRadio was because I heard of the release of the Android app and re-evaluated whether SB met all my requirements since I was in the market for a multiroom solution. If there is a good Android app which does away witht he need to purchase yet another remote I'll probably be looking to buy two or three more SB devices. Anyway thank you for your reply, this is all in the spirit of constructive criticism and I think its great to find the devs interacting on a public forum. -- Jaicee Jaicee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45802 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86487 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If brand is more important to you than functionality, of course... Yes I do agree but that there are apps that are native and do give good experiences but from Logitechs point of view there are two points of view. Firstly surely if you are going to release an app you should at least make sure its going to provide a good experience. Secondly there is also that psychological thing (and its crazy I know after spending £100+ on a radio) that £3 on an app is annoying. Finally I work in IT dealing with a lot of regular consumers. There is a significant proportion who would get a Squeezebox, see the advertised app download it and find it sluggish and simply assume all other apps are like that. If they were instead delighted with a nice responsive UI that made them want to use their SBs more then they are far more likely to buy more SB for other rooms. I don't want to even go into other reasons why having a good free app will drive more sales but I can certainly think of a few. Anyway I'm just coming at this from the point of view of someone who has just bought a SB and has only moved to Android phone from Symbian in the last 4 months, previously things like apps to control the device wouldn't of factored into the decision. -- Jaicee Jaicee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45802 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86487 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Someone not quite as stubborn as I am might abandon the entire system for another one marketed as the answer. The vast majority of SB purchasers are unaware of forums and the possibility of upgrades, patches, hacks, work-arounds, etc. and their experience is limited to the out-of-the-box experience only. Well anyone who gets on a forum and posts about their experiences is probably not the sort of person I was referring to. Actually I do understand why Logitech feel they have to have their own, branded App, what I feel sad about is what I feel they are doing with this product line which would just have so much more potential if done right. That said: using Web Apps to write universal Apps is a big tend right now, expect to see more of that. Also, expect it to be from the companies that you will eventually see leave the market because they didn't explore the potential of the platforms they used... What can I say, I was attracted by the fact that there was a remote app and I naturally assumed the Logitech one would be decent. I think you're right though about the potential of the system. The reason I bought a SB was because we're moving house and wanted a multiroom system that could sync to play back all our music. Naturally I looked at the other options, Sonos seemed nice but they were expensive, had a crazy mesh network making extending the range hard and there were no battery powered options available. SB seemed to have a good range of devices to cover all my needs, not be too expensive, not need yet another controller, could be controlled by my harmony remote or phone and it has a load of community apps too. I really do hope Logitech keep the product line moving, I was about to buy a Boom to go with the Radio but after researching it here it seems clear that anything that's not a Touch/Radio is probably EOL and won't be getting any new apps like the Spotify one. Also, not directed at pippin :), why develop an app at all and not invest enough time to get it working smoothly? Re: [slim] How can I listen to my music in the garden?
The most reliable method would be to buy a Wireless Access Point from a computer store, place it near a window facing your garden and connect it to your existing BT modem with a long network cable. This will hopefully give you the range you need but the down side is you may need to run a long cable between rooms. Using the repeater option mentioned is also good and requires no cables between your router and the wireless access point but is a little more fiddly to setup and in my experience isn't quite as reliable as the first option. You should be able to do both options yourself by following the manual that comes with the access point but if you can't you would need to get an IT guy to come out and sort it. It should take them 30 mins max to set it all up for you and check your radio can get a signal. It would be worth listing the model you wish to buy here first as most but not all support the repeater function. -- Jaicee Jaicee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45802 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87094 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Android Controller App
I tried out the Logitech app today which was a big selling point of Squeezebox to me (I don't want any extra remotes especially ones that cost £150!) but was a bit disappointed. The layout seems very nice and it has all the functionality but boy is it slow! I haven't read through all 19 pages here but I hope there's an explanation for why simple things such as artists lists are almost impossible to scroll through. I was expecting something as slick as the XBMC remote app which if the developers haven't tried they should have a look at. It looks nice and is very fast, can wake up XBMC machines through WOL etc and is generally very good at what it does, about the only thing it doesn't do well is the error messages it pops when you don't have a wireless connection which are a bit user unfriendly (but they don't crash the app). I've tried out Squeezedroid which works but is not quite as pretty as I'd like but is otherwise quite functional. It looks like I'll have to purchase squeezecommander as that has been getting good reviews and the authoer on these boards seems very responsive. For your information my phone is an Orange San Francisco (rebadged ZTE Blade) with Froyo on board. I've tried it with CM7 and that was perhaps a tiny bit faster but overall still very sluggish. -- Jaicee Jaicee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45802 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86487 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
