Even if Napster started streaming at 192kbps, the menu would still show 128, because that value is hardcoded in there. At the time it was implemented, that's all they had with no plans to change. If you find a track you think is 192 let me know and I'll confirm. -- andyg

The problem is rather technical, but basically the 256k format is not a streaming format (MPEG-4 AAC), while the 96k one is (ADTS AAC). faad cannot transcode a streaming MP4 because it needs access to the entire file. -- andyg
