[slim] Re: Problem with Browser plugin interface

2005-04-09 Thread mherger

I guess you installed 6.1 over 6.0.x. In the latest 6.1 I added web
interfaces to those three radio plugins. That's why they had to move
into a sub folder of their own (Plugins/ShoutcastBrowser etc.). Remove
the original (ShoutcastBrowser|RadioIO|SlimdevicesPicks).pm files and
only leave their folders.

How did you install the 6.1 nightly? rpm, tar, zip?

2008-05-21 Thread mherger

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47945

Question: How do you primarily use your Squeezebox Controller?

- I usually place it back in the cradle after I've selected my music
- It tends to follow me around the house

I'm taking it out of the cradle when coming home, turning on my stereo.
It then lies around the living room until battery empty or end of the
day.

It's been quite a while since we discussed the possibilities of using
the biography and/or the album review plugin as a screensaver. In fact,
I still think this could be one of the best enhancements of the
 Squeezebox interface I can imagine.

Ok, here you go. This is a first try - it might be pretty buggy. And
you'll need 6.5 or trunk to run it:

- download and install the 6.5 version of the plugin from
http://www.herger.net/AlbumReview

- replace the Plugin.pm with this version

- restart slimserver

You'll then have the AlbumReview in the player's Plugins section as
well as in Screensavers. When run as screensaver it will display the
content in one long line, scrolling along. It tries to keep in synch
with new songs etc. thus blocking the display while downloading new
reviews. You won't be able to wake up from the screensaver mode while
the plugin is blocking, I'm sorry.

Give it a try and let me know if it's working for you.

Have fun!

I'm pretty sure this is actually the case. IMHO the NSLU has a
throughput of a few (well below 10) megabytes per second whereas todays
harddisks easily transfer 40-50MB/s. It's generally an anlucky
combination, leaving the data files on a network share while running
the application on a distant machine. This has little to do neither
with Windows nor Samba (the SMB server used on Linux) but is just due
to the NAS' limited CPU power.

Re: [slim] Multiple servers - changing player to new server FROM the server?

2007-03-12 Thread mherger

So... here's a quickly hacked plugin ServerSwitcher, which allows you to
define other servers. They will show up under the web pages plugins
section, like the Switch to Squeezenetwork. You should install the
plugin on all the servers to be able to switch back.

There's currently no player menu available. If there's some interest I
might enhance it.

Have fun!

- b) 75% of the time on Slimserver / 25% on SqueezeNetwork
- c) 50% of the time on Slimserver / 50% on SqueezeNetwork
- d) 25% of the time on Slimserver / 75% on SqueezeNetwork

As the most interesting services aren't available over here on the old

it for the 90 days Pandora trial. But that's no longer an option for

Re: [slim] Opinion: which is the best OS to run SlimServer?

I've been running MIP for well over a year now on a headless Linux
system. I guess the GUI part is the major problem on Linux. Buf if it's
for a server install only, it's running stable for me (no crash yet).
There are a few features missing in this configuration, though (eg.
binary moods - due to lacking support in the HTTP interface).

[slim] How are you running SlimServer/SqueezeCenter on Windows?

2007-10-25 Thread mherger

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39650

Question: How are you starting SS/SC on Windows?

- when the machine is booted
- when I log in to Windows
- don't know
- I'm using iTunes integration
- my music is stored on a NAS

We are currently discussing the way we want SqueezeCenter to run on
Windows by default. There's a discussion with more technical details
going on in the developers forum
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39641).

What I'm interested as well is the non-technical part: do you start
SlimServer/SqueezeCenter when the machine is booted (as a service),
or when you log on (in application mode)?

When you answer, please tell us whether you're using iTunes and/or a
NAS (for storage only).

Thanks!

Please note: there won't be another official 6.5.x release. If you want

problem as it only has very few changes compared to 6.5.4, all of them
fixes only.

I checked in a settings tab for the WHS Console to the 7.4 branch.
Please give it a try.

Please note: due to un update issue you can end up with several
SqueezeCenter entries in the add-ins management. As long as I haven't
found a solution for this I recommend uninstalling SC before updating.
Or you'll have to clean the mess in the registry manually. (see

Question: Is third party plugins/applets important for your Squeezebox
purchases ?

- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless support for third
  party development is prioritized
- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless the third party
plugins I rely on is supported
- I use third party plugins but I would still consider buying more
  Squeezebox products without them
- I don't use third party plugins so they aren't important to my
  Squeezebox purchases

I hope Logitech will change his decision.

Please note that there's no such thing as a Logitech decision to ban
3rd party development or similar, thus no decision to change. It's
rather a matter of fact that we (the Logitech developers) lack the time
and resources to better support 3rd parties (by providing documentation
or stabilizing APIs etc. - see that other thread).

Don't panic!

Thanks Erland for bringing the topic up again. It's important to us
too. We need your support.

[slim] New official Logitech Squeezebox support forums

2010-08-04 Thread mherger

We are pleased to announce the creation of new official Squeezebox
boards: http://forums.logitech.com

We do not have any plans to close down the forums.slimdevices.com
platform and we welcome your participation in the official Logitech
Squeezebox forums.

http://forums.slimdevices.com is intended to be a peer to peer
community platform, there's no official support by Logitech stuff
(though some of us keep participating as always).

On http://forums.logitech.com a number of Logitech's support and
product specialist do regularly participate in conversations, and it is
a great environment for beginner questions or support oriented
questions.

Re: [slim] Android Controller App

All - we've identified an issue in the Controller App 1.0 which can
cause the NP screen to get stuck. This should only happen with SBS
7.5.3 or older, or with a not quite up to date copy of 7.6. 7.5.4
nightlies should work fine, as well as mysb.com.

Could anybody seeing the Now Playing screen issue tell me what exact
server they're using?

Just checked some of my recent downloads form BW's Society of Sound,

Universal Ears (UE) was a well respected high end brand for this kind of

It's Ultimate Ears ;-). They do custom in-ear monitors for pro
musicians. Only a few days ago I noticed this picture posted by bassist
'Tony Levin ' (http://www.papabear.com/tours/pg12/pg12_1.htm) from
rehearsals with Peter Gabriel:

See the logo on the (formerly :-)) white/gray box top right?

This is a problem for me also. I use the SB3 exclusively to access

 if mysqueezebox.com went away.

Because you are not alone there are no plans to shut down mysb.com.

Re: [slim] Level of support on the official forum

2012-11-23 Thread mherger

IMHO the reply in above case is absolutely valid: the user is running
7.5.x, while scanning and artwork handling have changed a lot since.
It's not worth investigating an issue based on such a system if it
probably has been resolved since.
