I think what I will be trying out is first just the built in jack, and when I get the time(/money) the PI-DAC+ from IQaudIO. That way I only need one extra component and I can keep everything in the same neat little box :).

[slim] Headphones and Raspberry Pi

2016-10-25 Thread Guut_Boy
I have an old RPi lying around on which I was thinking of installing piCorePlayer and use as a small inexpensive headphone listening station. However, I heard that the jack on the RPi is not very good to use with headphones (in this case I would probably be using a pair of Beyerdynamic Dt990).

Re: [slim] Rename a favorite

2016-03-01 Thread Guut_Boy
The above answer is correct. I just wanted to add that you do this in the LMS webinterface, where you can also make directories to sort your favorites (something I find quite useful). Also AFAIK it cannot be done when using mysqueezebox.com.

[slim] Raspberry Pi Zero - could this make a cheap player?

2015-11-27 Thread Guut_Boy
I few days ago the 5$ Raspberry Pi Zero came out '(more info here)' (https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/pi-zero/). I was wondering if this could be used to build a very compact and cheap Squeezebox player (perhaps a server even). Has anyone here looked in to this? What are your thoughts?

As you mention the family subscription sounds very nice to me, Spotify's family subscription is kind of a bad deal in comparison (50% off for each additional family member). I also like the idea of curated streams and the associated radio station. I am a huge fan of good radio dj's, so I think

However, so far the service it self does not really seem very revolutionary. What I mainly find interesting is how streaming is going to evolve now that there is (possibly) an other big player on the market besides Spotify.

Re: [slim] Cost effective device to run as a LMS

2015-06-04 Thread Guut_Boy
This all sounds very cool. I was wondering: Is the RPi strong enough to run LMS smoothly including plugins like Shairtunes, Triodes Spotify and so on? Or put an other way, are there performance issues with running LMS on such a small device?

Maybe I should be a bit more specific about my concrete setup: I have a Squeezebox Touch connected to my stereo, and a Raspberry Pi running piCorePlayer connected to a pair of pc-speakers. Both are connected to a squeezebox server over wifi running on an old Acer Aspire Revo nettop (I am actually

I am not sure it really makes sense to compare, but still, does someone have some thoughts on how the sound quality of the two compares? Obviously it depends entirely on the bit rate of the stream but what I was thinking of is: at what bit rate do you think streaming is equivalent or better than
