I have a DacMagic XS I might use. Good idea, thank you.

That looks interesting as well. Thank you, I had not heard about
I think what I will be trying out is first just the built in jack, and
when I get the time(/money) the PI-DAC+ from IQaudIO. That way I only
need one extra component and I can keep everything in the same neat
little box :).

Good call, but I think it also requires the DAC Zero. So given that I
already have the RPi, I think the PI-DAC+ is cheaper.
Thanks, sounds like I should try that first.

I have an old RPi lying around on which I was thinking of installing
piCorePlayer and use as a small inexpensive headphone listening station.
However, I heard that the jack on the RPi is not very good to use with
headphones (in this case I would probably be using a pair of
Beyerdynamic Dt990).
The above answer is correct. I just wanted to add that you do this in
the LMS webinterface, where you can also make directories to sort your
favorites (something I find quite useful). Also AFAIK it cannot be done
when using mysqueezebox.com.
I few days ago the 5$ Raspberry Pi Zero came out '(more info here)'
(https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/pi-zero/). I was wondering if this
could be used to build a very compact and cheap Squeezebox player
(perhaps a server even). Has anyone here looked in to this? What are
your thoughts?
As you mention the family subscription sounds very nice to me, Spotify's
family subscription is kind of a bad deal in comparison (50% off for
each additional family member).
I also like the idea of curated streams and the associated radio
station. I am a huge fan of good radio dj's, so I think

Fine - especially the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B
Sounds good. I am currently using an old machine and I am getting tired
of the fan noise, so switching with a RPi seems like an attractive
option. I had been thinking of something like the Zotac ZBox Pico, but I
think a RPi would
However, so far the service it self does not really seem very
revolutionary. What I mainly find interesting is how streaming is going
to evolve now that there is (possibly) an other big player on the market
besides Spotify.
This all sounds very cool. I was wondering: Is the RPi strong enough to
run LMS smoothly including plugins like Shairtunes, Triodes Spotify and
so on? Or put an other way, are there performance issues with running
LMS on such a small device?

Maybe I should be a bit more specific about my concrete setup: I have a

Sorry to not be clear. In addition to what I mentioned above, I have an
mix of devices from which I would want to stream music via BT. This
includes both iPhone/Pad and Android phones.
I would like to be able to play whatever sound is playing on those
devices through my squeezebox players
I see Bluetooth speakers are becoming very popular, and it make a lot of
sense to me. It seems really convenient to just be able to stream
whatever sound is playing on my phone or tablet on a larger speaker. So
I was wondering if i could do the same through my Squeezebox setup? I

An other good option is getting a Raspberry Pi and running piCorePlayer
or SqueezePlug on it (There may be other installations I dont know of).
This is, as far as I can tell, the cheapest solution (although if you
want really good sound I guess you need an external DAC of some kind,

Thanks for your input. It sounds like (from you and what I could google)
switching to old fashion FM radio is not going to make a big difference
unless the stream is very low bitrate (like the BBC streams).

I am not sure it really makes sense to compare, but still, does someone
have some thoughts on how the sound quality of the two compares?
Obviously it depends entirely on the bit rate of the stream but what I
was thinking of is: at what bit rate do you think streaming is
equivalent or better than
