Logitech Squeezebox Classic for sale. I acquired this brand new and sealed less than a month ago. I did an unboxing video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg4mByaDMdQ ) to check the contents and make sure everything was in full working order then back into the box. I had planned to keep it as a future collectible but something has come up and I now need to sell. I'm looking for £105 shipped within the UK, or £100 collected from the Huddersfield area, West Yorkshire. Payment by Paypal Gift, Bank Transfer or cash on collection. you can check my ebay feedback here : http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2userid=diffuseit_co_ukftab=AllFeedback Would be nice for this to go to someone on the forum, but if there's no interest I will be putting it on ebay. I tried this... The quality is fine, though not quite up to Touch quality. You'll find the Radio output at 100% volume is lower than the Classic/Touch (2.0vrms) at around 1.3vrms, around the same as the average PC soundcard. Cool. Correction, for me, it always defaults back to intermediate (1x?) not full screen. It never remembers 'HD'. All my album art is 750x750 if that makes a difference. Yea I use a Marantz PM6003 Amp with a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers. Great combo! More options: Marantz CD6004 as it has an iPod digi USB input on the front and can even charge the iPad. £250 Arcam drDock - has its own DAC plus digital outputs to an external DAC, if needed. £180 I really want to give that Onkyo a try, but for some reason I'm not holding out a deal of hope on its sound. Re: [slim] Logitech abandoning Squeezebox?
Another good audiophile alternative: iDevice (if you don't already own one - MANY already do - a 3rd gen iPod Tough can be had for little £££) iPeng! + the playback add on. One of the many digital dock / iPod USB enabled devices, or Airplay receiver. That'll give you all the lurvely Squeezebox functionality / brilliance + bit-perfect playback (just like the touch). So ye, not as dead as you might think! ;) ReValveiT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=55767 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97532 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Logitech abandoning Squeezebox?
That depends on what you consider well pricey. The Squeezebox Touch retailed around the £200 (UK) mark. The Onkyo can be got for £140. If you already own an iDevice you can add around a tenner for iPeng and the playback, and you're there for £150 - £50 less than a Touch (was). Plus you have the benefits of Airplay, and the vastly superior (to the Squeezebox version) Spotify IOS app that can be streamed over Airplay. Wouldn't mind giving the Onkyo a try myself. d6jg wrote: Have an iPod Touch and iPhone 4S with iPeng + Playback on both. The Touch is second gen so a bit limited. I regularly use the iPhone as a remote player and stream from my home system when in hotels etc but to if I had a 3rd gen Touch then I would experiment with that as a player using initially a Cambridge Audio analog dock and use the iPhone as the controller which is what it is generally used for. At present I don't need another player but if I did I would consider the following (no particular order):- A Raspberry Pi An iDevice with Onkyo dock (because it has both digital and analog output) A netbook running Squeezeplay and USB DAC An eBay SB3 or Touch There are plenty of options that will allow me loads of years worth of listening. Yep, all sounds good to me! Having sold my Touches (financial reasons) I'm now looking into new ways to stream. I have an iPhone 4 and iPad 3, but neither device comes anywhere near the SBT on sound quality (all devices analog out). My real choices are : PC running Squeezeplay into a good USB DAC, or, iDevice running iPeng into a good digital DOCK. Either way I want to stay in the Squeezebox ecosystem mainly because iPeng is so good. Currently playing CDs from my Sony BD player, which actually sounds surprisingly good! If only it had a Squeezeplay type app, I'd probably stick with it! Re: [slim] iPeng, your iPhone Squeezebox Remote, gets even better with version 2.0!
Pippin, Have you ever considered doing a PC player? Squeezeplay is fine, but it has its limitations (doesn't do 24/96) and is beta software. Seems to me, with your knowlage and coding experience, you could make the ultiamate PC playback app - especially now that the hardware is no longer produced. It would be a great way of continuing to use your superb remote even after the hardware has gone. I'd be more than happy to pay a good few quid for such a player. :) ReValveiT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=55767 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96749 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPeng now your audiophile App-Squeezebox for iPhone and iPad
pippin wrote: OK, now here's the link again. On the unaltered question, the general answer is yes, but there are a few things you have to look at - Depending on the dock, you might have to set the volume to 100%, although I'm not absolutely sure about this. iPeng itself doesn't manipulate the data or do replay gain calculations but iOS or the dock might do that if there is no analog volume control on the dock. In theory, USB audio supports modes to communicate volume information separately from the actual data (so that the actual stream doesn't have to be altered) and since iPeng only controls the iOS system volume I would in this case expect iOS to make use of this and also keep it's hands off the volume. Actually I'm inclined to believe that it's always doing this since it also doesn't volume control the line-out used with analog docks. So to sum up: I believe the communication will be bit-perfect independent of the volume setting but if you want to be absolutely sure, set the volume to 100%. If you are connecting just a DAC that doesn't have any analog control then you should be able to check this by testing whether the volume control in iPeng has any effect; it should not in this case. - you need to disable iPeng's equalizer (the default) or set it to neutral. You can find it under the player settings in Audio. Really interesting info there, thanks for taking the time to reply. But I'm curious; is iPeng capable of bit-perfect audio output through a digital dock such as the Arcam drDock?
