Well unless you know what their sales were like ,you have no idea

I'm never going to 'actively' listen to music on my portable devices,

And if this is about quality, then why bother with hi-res formats?
Hi-res is not a guarantee for high quality music.
If quality is important then young should be talking to the music

and 2) stop compressing the hell out of the music.

Like the upcoming Fiio X5 dsd player which I think will cost 250 0r 350?

switch between playing my own music, or pandora or siriusXM, etc. I
could do all this by switching sources on the computer itself but not
 from the remote.

But for playing one's own music in one location only, there are lots of
choices as any very quiet computer and DAC will work.

My system with speakers throughout the house and outside is all on one
rack
The house was pre - wired with speaker
cables per my instructions so I have music synched and playing in any
room I wish .

The macmini will be in a enclosed entertainment center so no fan noise .

Using VNC , however is nothing like the ease and usability of ipeng so I
will sorely miss that and will certainly be the
weakest part of the setup .

I could survive too, but I might need two computer sources (as I'm not

same time play something different (internet radio) to the small system.
Might need something like a SONOS player for just internet radio,
siriusXM to feed the small system for my wife. And I can use an old
iphone for the remote for that system. I could continue using
transporter and LMS for my main system for my own music. This would
allow me to not have a computer in the rack. Instead, I can still feed
things to main system from the vortexbox server in the back room and the
Sonos player would get its stuff simply via the internet (no local
 music).

Man I wish we didn't have to ultimately go through this but I listen to
my library
50 percent , music services 50 percent (MOG) .
My wife is at about 90 percent music services and Internet radio .

Re: [slim] Now the Squeezebox is dead, what would your next system be? And why?

2012-08-29 Thread jhonsber...@msn.com

I detest legal issues but doesn't Logitech open themselves up to a major
class
action lawsuit and individual lawsuits if they discontinue
mysqueezebox.com?

After all, some folks, like me, purchased their products on the condition
that this
service existed and would provide radio services ,otherwise they would
not have
purchased the product.

My entire setup at my office would not work as I have a Touch which is
always
connected to mysqueezebox .we have no computers, just tablets at my
office so
I can't run LMS .

Re: [slim] What if Logitech pulls the plug

2012-08-10 Thread jhonsber...@msn.com

I use to buy alot of Cd's when you could only hear small clips of the
music on the album.

Now I use MOG for discovering the albums I really like to purchase and
even with the 120 bucks/yearly
I pay for it,I am definitely saving money by not buying albums I
consider ok but not great.

Now if streaming went to 20/month,I might drop this cd selection method.

can still listen to internet radio via the built-in server. That may be

Well we mostly listen to MOG and Radio Paradise .80 percent MOG , 20

I noticed that when i connected the boom to myqueezebox, it updated the

Anyone have a clue as to what is happening?

MOG had tipped over into usable-enough given this little tip, and they
offered me Rhapsody Basic for $4.99. This turns out to be the same
as MOG's $5 plan -- no mobile, but does work on Squeezebox, apparently

the same price and canceling MOG instead.

Rhapsody's audio quality is horrid compared to MOG's .Thats why I will

that the way the icloud is working is that the device DOWNLOADS the

streaming. Could be wrong about this, but when I selected a song from
the icloud on my ipad last night, it downloaded the song to my ipad

Yeah you have to download it manually from your Apple device. That
doesn't
impress me. I also notice there is no way to delete something you have
downloaded from icloud from the device itself. So you still have to
connect that device to the computer. That doesn't impress me either. Why
not just download right from the comnputer? It will be much faster
anyway.

Those who pirated music might go for this but my whole library is in
lossless format,so i have no interest.

Funny thing is I don't remember having this problem several months ago

what the problem is.

last time I had this problem with the sleep function on my imac was
about 4 years ago.Since then I haven't had the problem until recently
again.

Four years ago I just turned the Imac sleep setting to never when
playing music.I guess i may have to do that again .I can do it remotely
so its no big deal but I have seen this behavior before with Mac
