, the length of the network cable leading to
the switch does not affect the wireless range. The weather will affect
your wireless range, however, so it may not be very reliable.

I'd be careful with the tongue test. The PSU is 2 amps isn't it?
Voltage doesn't hurt... current does

It's very possible that the file corrupted after it was encoded and
verified... or you had an unstable FLAC version doing the encoding that
messed it up.

although you'd probably need to check its capabilities.
Rockford Fosgate used to make the Omnifi which you could synchronise
over wireless LAN, but i think you can only find them on eBay now.

Also try plugging a different device in using the same cables. This
problem has come up before and was just bad cabling.

After reading that you guys maintain two libraries, why don't you look
into MediaMonkey. Apparently one of the latest (beta) versions allows
re-encoding on the fly while you sync a portable to it.
I haven't tried this feature myself, but it at least sounds promising.

I don't think there is such a setting, but there is a setting for how
many items should be in there (which defaults to 100).

Just FYI, I'm also using a WPN824 set to auto 108mbps - although i don't
have any devices that can actually support this standard.
I don't have any problems getting the squeezebox to connect. Try update
the firmware, there is a new beta version on the netgear website.

something wrong...
My server box is running Windows XP so it shouldn't have any issues
with unicode files, or so I thought.

While any codec is good to have done on the device itself, AAC won't
have any real benefit since Apple Fairplay still isn't licenced - so
iTunes downloads will still be unplayable.

Does anybody know of anything I can get that will make this work? Does
anyone know much about X10?

That site tries to download off xplhal.com which doesn't work, it's not
actually a mirror. I was looking for this too with no luck either.

That would be fantastic if you could send the scripts, thank you.. I
think I'll order this then. This seems to be serial like yours, it must
include a USB-serial adapter to be advertised as USB though.
As for it being windows only, that's fine - I'm windows only too (at
least at home)

Is quicktime or itunes installed on the slimserver machine? I believe
this is required to do the decoding.

out it is VBR and shows the correct time remaining.
My question is, am I using a dodgy copy of LAME? Do other people get a
similar experience using VBR in LAME?

Ogg files are decoded on the server, where FLAC and MP3 are decoded on
the Squeezebox2.
So, yes, you cannot scan because there is no built-in decoder.
