Spotify is best for their huge collection and TIDAL is better for Hi-Rez (16/44). We have been having a problems here with TIDAL and it turned out to be very sensitive to DNS. Set up a good caching DNS server and TIDAL works much better. Also Qobuz is coming to the US and and they higher then CD quality streaming. I started an hour later but I've run through most of a playlist with no issues here. Tidal problems are often local or regional anyway. It's very frustrating, and in fact of the 1,100 posts in the ComputerAudiophile "Official Tidal HiFi Streaming Issues Thread" my impression is that most of the complaints are about unexplained stuttering, dropouts, freezes, and hangs/rebuffering. If you're still having problems, we should probably take this to a new thread to discuss further. I moved to Tidal when Spotify went funny and I couldn't get the new plugin to work. One aspect concerns me. When I try to use Tidal I have to first log on, then open another app (usually Radio Paradise) and then go back into Tidal before it will work. Thanks for the heads-up, I will of course install that plug in. Still, what I would really like is to be able to browse the pdf when streaming, same as in qobuz web player. I don't download much these days. Qobuz metadata for an album does contains link to a pdf booklet if available (it is called "goodies"...) so one would think perhaps there is a way to use this link. Assuming that qobuz api allows this. I'll have to look into this. But please take any further discussion to a different thread. It's becoming rather off topic. Re: [slim] Which Streaming Music Service works best for You and your system?
Interesting and unexpected development regarding my search for a music service: Recently I signed up for both Spotify and Deezer. Spotify initially but then Deezer as I'm still not yet able to get my Spotify Plugin working (It's definitely an issue with my Win 7 OS install needing a fresh reinstall of the OS - not something I'll have time for anytime soon.) Anyway, we're grooving out in the house with Deezer when my oldest child (4 years old) wants to hear something about Room Without A Roof. A quick Google Search reveals that he's discovering Pop Music - much to the chagrin of my John Coletrane, Hank Mobley, Stanley Turrentine taste. But hey, he's 4 and anything to get him grooving too! So we play Happy by Pharrell Williams and then turn on the Deezer flow to follow. A few songs later my 4 year old is hearing about how We're gonna (something) her (something) up in da (something)... Ouch! Another quick Google search reveals that Deezer doesn't really have a method for filtering explicit lyrics. Nothing I exactly anticipated as most everything I listen to is instrumental or is from the days where everything was radio-friendly. So, I'm still searching. noexit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66502 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Partly answering my own question, I researched the new service a little bit. I have not actually tried it, and there is a free month trial. But, from what others have said, the bit rate tops at 128K which seems very low for a $9.99/mo fee. That combined with new direct LMS service will eliminate me as a potential customer. freelsjd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4344 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Spotify had the ability to create folders within playlists. So, for example, I can setup a playlist in Spotify as a genre of music, say acoustic-rock. Then I can go into that folder and setup different playlists. Deezer has only flat playlists. Unfortunately Spotify does not expose those folders in their APIs. The main thing that I like about deezer, apart from the fact that it works well with LMS, is that the download speeds are very good; at least to me. There is a noticeable difference in downloading the local copy of an album to my phone, for example. Really much faster. I don't know why. Deezer also seems to improve their service to my liking. About the only thing that I dislike about Deezer that I had in Spotify is that Spotify had the ability to create folders within playlists. Another vote for Spotify - I use it via LMS and the Spotty plug-in running on a Raspberry Pi. I like it because of their selection of music. I listen mostly to Scandinavian music, and there's no other service I've found with the same catalog. (Not surprising, since they're based in Sweden.) But I also listen to Mexican pop, Americana, Bollywood, Eastern European and anything else that catches my ear. Re: [slim] Which Streaming Music Service works best for You and your system?
I use Spotify, via the Spotty plugin. Works very nicely in my LMS system. *Home:* VBA 4TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Touch> Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9.1>Squeezelite *Wilderness: *PiCorePlayer 3.5 on rPi 3B+, hifiberry Dac+Pro, 4TB USB (LMS & Squeezelite) *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win10(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpoweramp > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I use Deezer hifi (FLAC quality) via the Ickstream LMS plugin The plugin is fairly basic, but playback works perfectly, at least. It only shows the first 200 of your favourite albums, which is annoying, but it's easy enough to search the entire Deezer collection via the plugin, so it doesn't really matter. Can't compare to the others, since I've not tried them. cdmackay's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=24816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I use Spotify and was ready to look elsewhere and then the Spotty plugin made everything about as good as I could ask. I mostly use Spotify to try before I buy music. Admittedly, most music I listen to on Spotify I listen to once and never again, or through automatic playlists, which serve me more like a radio. Consequently, I rarely listen to an album more than once on Spotify and I buy much less music. emalvick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Given the work Michael has done on the Spotty plugin Spotify is the best integration with LMS imho. [slim] Which Streaming Music Service works best for You and your system?
I absolutely love my LMS system. I have either Windows PC's or Android Devices in most every section of my home that I sync music to on and off depending on various family member moods all day long. We use it all the time for lots of things. We're just now considering a subscribing to a music streaming service. But we're not sure which one will work the best for us. We've just signed up for a Spotify trial as we like the various selections of 50's to 70's Jazz they have on board. We like the deep cuts they have and the large selection. But we're still working on getting it setup to interface and stream through LMS so we can listen throughout the house. So, we're looking for feedback from the Squeezebox Community as to which Music Streaming Services might be the most popular and easiest to configure with the widest selection available. All feedback graciously appreciated.
