Hmmm, I'm not at home so can't check my readynas duo. But I'm almost
positive that ITUNES itself can't be installed on the readynas. There
is a program on the READYNAS that can stream your itunes music, etc.
(maybe an itunes share, I forget, because I don't use it) and the music
files can certainly be on your NAS. Best approach I think is to simply
install itunes on the laptop (don't move anything, just install from
apple website). Then point your itunes library location to the files on
the NAS.

But I could be entirely wrong on this because although I have a
readynas duo, I use it only for some file storage and not for itunes or
SbS/LMS. Good luck getting it straightened out.

2012-01-13 Thread andynormancx

Just because the iTunes music files or program files are on your share
on the NAS, it doesn't mean iTunes is _installed_ on your NAS.

If you are running iTunes on your laptop then it is installed on your
laptop. If you are running the program files from the NAS share, that
is probably not a good idea.

And no, iTunes cannot be installed on your NAS.

[slim] Brain Fart - iTunes install on the NAS Duo or PC

2012-01-11 Thread arebe

I'm a little embarrassed to even ask this, as I've been a SBS and NAS
Duo user for a few years now. Without boring you with the details that
led to this question let me just ask it:

I'm running a NAS Duo (Sparc). Do I install the iTunes software
(10.5X) on the NAS directly in my Media Share or keep iTunes software
on my laptop and my just music iTunes library for SBS on the NAS?

I currently have iTunes and its music library installed on the NAS.
I'm confused because my NAS DUO is a Sparc based operating system and
this seems counterintuitive to iTunes needed operating system.
Everything is working however, with the exception that I'm having
stability problems now on iTunes and can't upgrade to the latest iTunes
version as it hits errors during the upgrade. Some SBS upgrade ago, I
think I must have been in a fog and moved iTunes directly from the
laptop to the NAS.

Lost in a circle. Appreciate any clarity. Thank you.
