Very true, I had a perfectly good version of Tom Tom 6 on my HTC Kaiser which would not run on my new HTC TP2 as it is VGA. Tom Tom have literally dropped the PDA market due to piracy, so I'm left with no alternative but to use dubious means myself to use software I had already paid for. -- Blisteringblue 'What am I listening to?' Over the years, the whole Squeezebox experience has been totally lifechanging - music everywhere for the price of one, now quite ancient, SB2 box, plus of course, Softsqueeze. The other really brilliant innovation is Rockbox - transformed the various iPods in the household - which, together with Squeezebox means that iTunes is relegated to where it should be (the recycle bin) and straight folders and files drive everything - MP3, Flac etc etc etc etc!!! I agree with the positives mentioned above and would add that the current nightlies of SBS are looking very good, which is an encouraging sign for the future. I am running 7.4.2 from the nighlies on one server and 7.5 on another. The former is as robust and functional as I could possibly desire and the most recommendable version out today, while 7.5 is working very well for me too. My feeling is that the Touch will be an excellent product, and will not be undermined by software that supports it. -- dsdreamer -- Dreamer, easy in the chair that really fits you... dsdreamer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12588 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74057 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Breaking News - TomTom To Sue Logitech
. A legal representative of satellite navigation manufacturer TomTom, today confirmed the company's intention to issue legal proceeding against Logitech for breach of patent in relation to it's Squeezebox range of products. -TomTom has developed a long line of products over the last few years where the software has been an in-house joke at the customers expense. We have further developed the joke by enhancing the software with regular updates providing features no-one wants at the expense of breaking features that used to work. We then came up with the cunning ploy of completely ignoring these bugs in favour of writing completely new versions of software to support new hardware products. New customers are so much nicer than existing ones, especially in da yoof market. It has come to our attention that Logitech appear to be shamelessly copying this business model with their Squeezebox range of products. We have put enormous resources into treating our customers like something smelly on the bottom of our shoes simply won't allow this concept to be stolen from under our noses without a fight...- -- rbz5416 rbz5416's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12089 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74057 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Breaking News - TomTom To Sue Logitech
A highly placed source in Logitech who at present wishes to remain anonymous says that Logitech strongly refutes these scurrilous allegations, and will vigorously contest them in every court in which lawyers can be purchased. (A journalist at The Times notes that this leaves them opportunity for litigation. Logitech is and has always been the market leader in this approach to product development. We find it leads to thorough exercising of the company when there is a wide interest in finding bugs. The opportunity this provides for the squashing by one means or another of las cucharachas keeps the company vibrant and youthful. In the very long run, better products ensue - fewer in number certainly, but cucharaca free. In fact, we are very proud to be able to say that we have never ever shipped one of our products con cucharaca - our motto (hitherto secret) is sin cucharaca. -- kesey Squeezebox Classic:2; Duet: 1; Boom:1; Touch:on order Server: SheevaPlug Debian Squeeze 4GB SDCard, Squeezeboxserver 7.4.2 kesey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10786 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74057 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Breaking News - TomTom To Sue Logitech
Probably 1/3 of the posts seem to be to critise Logitech on bug fixes. I you look at the postponed Touch release one can only conclude that they have learned their lesson an will not let history repeat like what happened in the past. If you look at the various forum posts there are positive developements going on regarding the strategy of Logitech for their squeezebox product range. How funny your post may be I believe Logitech has already gotten the picture. So can we please stop with all the negative sentiment and start having some positive attitude?
