Re: [slim] Is this the Boom Mk2 that Logitech should have made ?

2015-07-24 Thread malaugh

That's what I use mine for. I installed a copy of Alarm Clock plus. I
use this because it has a dimmer, so you can leave it on during the
night and still read the time without blinding you. You can also set up
the soft keys at the bottom to instant go to your radio app, and get the
radio to play to wake you up.

I also have rad.io installed for the radio stations, Podcaster for
podcasts, Shuttle for mp3s, Mortplayer for audiobooks, Spotify and
Squeezeplayer. Now the upgrade made them compatible, I may swap out
Shuttle for Poweramp, and rad.io for Tunein.

The combination makes a perfect bedside radio with all the audio choices
you will ever need. I do not use it to play video, but it does a good
job at that also.

The things I like are the remote, which allows you to adjust the volume
without stretching over to the nightstand. Its also pretty easy to
change apps with the cursor keys.

The only downside is its pretty big, so it takes up a lot of real estate
on the nightstand, and the sound quality is just OK.

Mine received the update yesterday. I don't use PowerAmp and Rad.io, but
both seem to work fine. I don't see rad.io paid version in Google Play.

will be using it to replace my Archos Home connect
http://store.archos.com/archos-home-connect-p-5027.htm?id=5027 I have
been using as my bedroom clock for the past few years. I use tune in,
podcast player, and squeezeplayer on it now, and I am hoping for the
same setup on the Avy. The downside of the Archos are the small screen,
limited app compatibility, and difficult to use touchscreen, so I am
looking forward to the upgrade. The units arrives Thursday.

I just emailed Avy support and will update this thread for this critical
 issue.

I got a reply from Avy support. They attempted to duplicate the error
and could not.

I tried again today to download the player apps and it went fine.

Playback was as easy as any other SB player.

Sound quality is fair. Loud enough for a single room. Bass response is
pretty low though.

This unit can certainly serve as a player for casual listening and it
has a cheap but adequate Android tablet to boot.

To be fair, it can probably play a lot more than SB such as the BandCamp
app, etc. I hope I can get TuneIn to work.

YMMV.

I love it! At 10 watts, the sound isn't as powerful as what I had hoped
for, but loud enough for 95% of my consumption around the house. 60%
volume is the level my wife can stand (we have different music tastes).
Bass is surprisingly good. Not so much with the high frequency. I'm not
an audiophile.. so take my comment with a grain of salt.

What I like about it most isn't the sound. It's the overall design. I
can't believe I'd appreciate a tablet this much (as far as OS goes).
Other than TV, this box is now my go to place for anything entertainment
related.

Re: [slim] Is this the Boom Mk2 that Logitech should have made ?

2015-06-14 Thread twizey

It's on Amazon.com too, for $30 less. Although that's also US only. I
got mine from the preorder.. you may have to email them asking about
early access if you live outside the US.

What I'd like to see is a review of this, comparing it to the Boom with
respect to sound quality and other factors like portability. Not clear
if it can be run via a battery. Certainly seems promising!

[slim] Is this the Boom Mk2 that Logitech should have made ?

Load Orange Squeeze, Squeeze Ctrl or Squeeze Commander as a controller,
SB Player or SqueezePlayer as a player and away you go for around $220.

This device was first noticed and discussed over here
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?102903-Interesting-potential-replacement-for-Squeezebox-radio
. As it appears to be shipping in the US it should get a bit more
notice.
