I use iPeng on my iPhone (which I leave outside the bathroom having
chosen a playlist) and a waterproof rechargeable Bluetooth speaker. It
didnt cost much but is well built and sounds ok.

Unless you're planning on immersing the speaker, or subjecting it
directly to water spray, the exposed jack with plug inserted shouldn't
present a issue for water entry into the device.

How about using a 3.5mm to FM transmitter (as used in cars) in player
and then use an FM shower radio - not sure about the range.

not too concerned with sound quality (small room)
The speaker is then connected to a pi with hifberry amp+... located in
ceiling too (accessible I loft/attic space)

Mhh. I use (sometimes) an Airplay speaker in the bathroom, but I don't
know of any that would be waterproof.
Your Rpi with an integrated amp doesn't look like a bad option, assuming
the zwave button is waterproof.

Put a playlist on, set the volume to the level you want, then take a
shower IE don't interface with electronics while wet or in the bathroom!
