Re: [slim] What's the best remote device moving forward?
Unfortuantely I can't remember exactly how I set it up but I have SqueezePlay running as an app in the native software (although you can run it in Ubuntu if you use a memory stick) however it's a great display/controller for all my Squeezeboxes. I did a couple of other hacks to update the wireless driver and change the behavior of the backlight so it doesn't go into standby with running Squaeezeplay. I might sound smart but I just followed instructions I found on line to do all this, the clever people are the ones that wrote such good instructions! -- Bearfaced Bearfaced's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23269 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80519 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] What's the best remote device moving forward?
This tablet seems pretty good to me for $150 or so. I installed the Panda launcher with volume button hack and it is working pretty well. I guess the latest firmware improves the Wi-Fi re-connect times but I haven't have any issues with whatever version is loaded on mine. I mean something that can also act as a small Internet device and can link wirelessly to my main computer rig. That's what was so nice about the Nokia devices, although I agree it seems they haven't made much of a splash in the marketplace. I still use wired phones at home, and work pays for my wireless (I don't have a choice in what they give me). So buying a 'droid or something like that doesn't seem real cost-effective for something like this. -- tonyptony tonyptony's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80519 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] What's the best remote device moving forward?
I have a Controller, which unlike some I really do like - except for the wimpy battery life. I've also used a Nokia N770 with the Nokia skin. I liked that (the Nokia has great battery life but the skin seems not to be as up to date). With the bunch of new multi-capable remote devices out there now which one provides the best usability for Squeeze devices (including battery life)? -- tonyptony tonyptony's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80519 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

iPad. If you just use it for remote control and let it sleep between activities it will likely last a week. There's nothing else I have that comes even close WRT battery life. Re: [slim] What's the best remote device moving forward?
I suspected it would be something with an i in front of it. Right now, though, getting an iPad would be sort of overkill for me. I already have a couple of lightweight PC notebooks. I'd need a pretty good reason to get more functionality out of an iPad when I already have those, to think about buying one. I think also the iPad is just a little big for my desired use. -- tonyptony tonyptony's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80519 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] What's the best remote device moving forward?
you asked for it... If you use a phone and disable the phone part of it it could also help a bit. Don't know about Android (never tried to turn off cellular on that one) but on my iPhone it lasts significantly longer with only WiFi than an iPod touch with WiFi so I assume it has a bigger battery. iPod touch did last for a looong time too in the past if not used too much but not so anymore since the iOS4 update, I'm down to 3-4 days on standy only now (used to be weeks) and 1 1/2-2 1/2 days with actual use. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80519 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

tonyptony;562575 Wrote: Too bad about the iPod Touch. Maybe I'd just be better off getting a Nokia N800? Wonder if the skins work better on it than the 770. I have an 800. They're the same skins. Do they not work on the 770? There's now a version of firefox for the n800/810. Maybe for the 770 too? Given ff, there shouldn't need to be much special about the skins for the 770/800/810 - except sizing. As I remember, the standard Maemo browser lacked something basic, but I don't remember what (been too long). Javascript? CSS2? Anyway, the 770 skins were (again, AFAIR) a bit clunky because there was a need to work around this limitation. On an unrelated note - if you have small notebooks / netbooks around, why not try Moose? Or even just the standard web GUI? Personally, I'm leaning towards Android on a tablet.
