thanks for the repies! well, strings is just a simple command to look in a binary file and output any ASCII/text strings that it can find. it's quick and dirty, but very useful. e.g.: Code: [silo:/silopool/music/Compilations/Rewind!] strings 01. Open Door -

I don't know much about the Unix strings command, but it sounds like a tag problem. I would run a program that can analyze ID3 V1 and V2 tags, where I imagine you will find your odd genre embedded. I use Dr. Tag, but a good free one appears to be TagScanner. Many more exist. -- ds2021 All
