I may buy a pair to replace my A5s at my weekend place. I like the fact that they have balanced audio inputs. I can run them with my TOUCH connected to my Benchmark DAC then balanced outs to the speakers. And I also like the bass and treble adjustments as I'm forced to use suboptimal placement which causes a bit of booming bass. -- garym *Location 1:* VB Appliance 6TB (1.10) LMS 7.7.1 Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Location 2:* VB Appliance 3TB (2.0) LMS 7.7.1 Touch Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win7(64) LMS 7.7.1 SqueezePlay Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controllers: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94196 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] suggestion for desktop speakers
thank you, I confess I didn't notice that they were bi-amped. Anyway my question remains: would I be better off spending the same money on passive speakers keeping my (preamp and) amp, or you suggest to go with the Emotiva? There should be a lot of Touch owners which have answered this question on their own... -- Nando1970 LMS 7.7.1 on Windows 7 PC serving: * Touch - Trends Audio PA-10 SE / TA-10.2P SE / PW-10 - Tannoy 603 or Sennheiser HD 280 pro * Duet - AV Receiver Harman Kardon AVR-255 - Chario Syntar 200 * 4 Booms: bathroom1, bathroom2, bedroom, kitchen Nando1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38639 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94196 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] suggestion for desktop speakers
Hi I am considering to buy a pair of desktop speakers to replace the Tannoy in my signature. After having praised the active Audioengine 5(+) for year, recently Steve Guttenberg has written a very positive review for the active Emotiva Pro airmotiv 4 http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-57367525-47/emotivas-astonishing-desktop-speaker/ I could get them for about #8364;380, but since I don't necessarily need active speakers I was wandering if I could get some better passive speakers. The passive speakers I am considering are: - Audioengine P4, at #8364;234 (+ #8364;45 for DS2 Desktop Speaker Stands) - Wharfedale Diamond 10.2, at #8364;310 - JohnBlue JB3, at #8364;360.00 any opinion and/or suggestion? -- Nando1970 LMS 7.7.1 on Windows 7 PC serving: * Touch - Trends Audio PA-10 SE / TA-10.2P SE / PW-10 - Tannoy 603 or Sennheiser HD 280 pro * Duet - AV Receiver Harman Kardon AVR-255 - Chario Syntar 200 * 4 Booms: bathroom1, bathroom2, bedroom, kitchen Nando1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38639 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94196 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Note that the airmotiv 5 are bi-amped.
