Hi,
today I got a new unpublished BIOS 2.0a from Supermicro.
I´m glad to say all tests were successfully so far! :-)))
In the next days I will make further tests...
@Bob
You can now scrape up the money for your new system! ;-)

Re: [discuss] Fwd: Re: [OmniOS-discuss] LSI 9300-16i SAS and OmniOS?

2016-09-07 Thread Frank Morgenstern
Hi Bob,

sorry for hijacking your thread...
I wanted only tell you and others that I have actually with exactly your
hardware configuration (possibly other 3U-SM-case) massive problems.
Btw., this card in an old SM-SATA-backplane-case on a SM X10SLL-F works like a
charme under VMware/OmniOS in my tests. Because I have only one of this board
and one of this card I can't say if it is a hardware or softwareproblem.
The 16i card has the same chips like the 8i - but twice. Therefor this is
another card. F.i. this card uses only one PCIe-slot. Normally two 8i use two
slots. ;-) Also the card is in Action very very hot - I mean the
temperature... At Friday I'll get my infrarot-temperatur-measuring instrument
from amazon, bought only for measering the card-temperature.
In the end at the moment no other person has reported success with this
configuration and I would not buy this configuration without detailed tests...
But I hope some people will report that this works and that only my card is
faulty.

greets
Frank

You effectively highjacked the discussion thread that I started.

I assume that for "VMware-virtualized OmniOS with passthrough LSI-HBA"
that it is actually VMware which is interfacing with the LSI-HBA and
OmniOS is interfacing with an emulated device that VMware provides.

2016-09-07 Thread Frank M.
I testet now without SSDs and with only 1 HDD in a testpool - same errors...
