No, there isn't one. In the old days, people tended to post Transporter
specific postings in the "audiophile" forum. If you have questions that
relate to more general things (LMS, mysb.com, 3rd party software, 3rd
party hardware, etc.) you should post in those forums. For other things
that are "transporter" specific, I might use the "audiophile" forum.

Well, no. lots of people have them, use them, still enjoy them. I'm not

You can still see some new in box on ebay and a few resellers.

Most of it runs on SqueezeCenter, but even here it's much less true

I think that's great if people want to talk quite specifically about
that product. However, it does run the risk of questions/ideas about
code/plugins being posted in one forum when it would be applicable to
all products - which would mean that either useful answers are missed,
or people might be tempted to cross-post so they would be more certain
of a reply.

Re: [slim] Transporter Forum??

2008-09-03 Thread autopilot

I suggested a change to the forum layout a while back and the thread got
completely ignored. But hey ho, i will have a go again...

I think a change is needed but splitting by product will just get
confusing. Most users wont have a clue if the issuse they are
experiencing is with the controller, squeezebox, squeezecenter or
network etc. What i propose is simply add a 'troubleshooting' forum and
that would take about 50% of the general discussion forum threads. Could
help sales too as pre-purchace customers will often pop into the forums
and the general discussion forum is often the first post of call. It
can be off putting and give the wrong impression that the product is
more problematic than it really is. I realise the beginers forum is
there but its obviously not being used correctly and a lot of people
with problems are not new users.

You see this all the time. They bought a Duet, so they have no idea if
the problem is in the Controller or the Receiver. And it makes a big
difference.

What i propose is simply add a 'troubleshooting' forum and
that would take about 50% of the general discussion forum threads.

I like this. Of course, most troubleshooting is network troubleshooting,
but you could do sub splits later on depending on volume.

As for splitting the forums. The Boom forum is working well and the
main forum is becoming a bit swamped. I don't like splitting forums too
much though and think that things can easily become confused, with the
demarcation failing and ending up with threads having to be moved from
one forum to another far too often. However, if they were to be split
Deans split by product is the correct thing to do. Giving Transporter
users and Audiophiles seperate forums would enable sensible Transporter
owners to stay sane. Individual Duet and SlimCenter forums would be
useful too. Creating one called networking would not work as virtually
all the people who write in with networking problems don't realise they
have networking problems.

It's a bit of a shame more people don't write into the beginners forums
instead of diving straight into the main forum.

Actually I can see some benefit in the split. I agree that the General

If it's decided to have product-based boards, I would still like to see

I really don't like segregation.

If I was going to do a lot of arbitrary splits, I would separate out
Receiver from Controller, because ignoring the marketing spin, they are
separate and often users have problems with one or the other.

But I don't like the idea of the splits.

More so, if I was going to make a useful split, I'd put a separate
section for networking. A huge percentage of problems that users have
with Controllers and Receivers are due to WiFi and firewall issues, in
most cases the SD/Logi parts work fine.

If we had a Networking Problems forum, we could have some stickies and
point folks with networking issues to go there.

The fact that the Wiki has all the information is mostly irrelevant,
seems folks come to the forum and expect answers in the forum.
