Hi Tomas, Since the font-size change is being made on the same element that uses an attribute-set, you can customize the attribute-set instead to make the font-size conditional on the element. An attribute-set is evaluated each time it is applied. For example: xx-small

I finally tracked it down! I was using an older docbook.xsl, version 1.29. I upgraded to 1.44 and all is well: my fo output says "10pt", as it should. (Arrrgh! I "wasted" about 4 hours on this making sure it wasn't operator error and that the answer wasn't already in the archives. Sigh.) Thanks
