Hi
The string in pootle refers to the Mail merge wizzard (Tools - mail
merge), not the letter wizzard (File - wizzard - Letter).

The string is correct.

[libreoffice-documentation] Help Authoring extension updated (Version 3.1.5)

2017-06-02 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hello.

The Help Authoring extension, used to edit help files, has been updated
with the support of superscripts and subscripts characters.

The new extension (version 3.1.5) is available for download at the
following address:

http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/helpauthoring/

To install or update the extension in your LibreOffice, just download it
and either double click on the downloaded file or issue Tools -
Extension Manager, click the add button, locate the downloaded file and
click OK

Thanks to Jean Spiteri (liongold) for the update.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Calc On-Line Help

2017-06-08 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hello Dave

This is actually a developer issue, to connect the help button to the
right Help page in the wiki.

With the local help package installed, the Conditional formatting dialog
opens file

/text/scalc/01/0512.xhp

see
http://vm173.documentfoundation.org//text/scalc/01/0512.html?

which is correct.

For some reason, the wiki conversion is missing the right target:

https://help.libreoffice.org/scalc/modules/scalc/ui/conditionalformatdialog/add?Language=en-US=UNIX=5.3

It needs attention from a developer to fix this.

Olivier

[libreoffice-documentation] For help content author newbies, simple tasks to start

2017-06-14 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hello Help Content authors

Here is a simple task you may want to warm up, assuming you have cloned
the help repository locally(*).

The link in the message below opens a page in Pootle

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/pt_BR/libo_help/translate/swriter/guide.po#unit=127431379

in this page we see

* the XHP file: "protection.xhp" (look at the left pane)

* the module: swriter/guide (look at the file path in the black line):

"LibreOffice master – Help swriter/guide.po Unidade #127431379"

therefore the help file to look at is

swriter/guide/protection.xhp

You can open this file in LibreOffice (with the HelpAuthoring.oxt
extension (*)) and look at the suggestion of the translator and decide
if it has to be followed, at your discretion.

Once the file is OK, you may either 1) submit to gerrit (**) or 2) send
the file to me and I'll revise and push to gerrit with your authorship.

Question and more help here in this list. Do not hesitate to contact
thru the list or in the IRC #libreoffice-doc channel in

https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#libreoffice-doc

Note: Other similar messages in this mailing list are still open for
work, **especially after the date "29 May 2017"** (all before that was
fixed already)

(*) https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/HelpContent

(**) instructions to set a gerrit account:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/gerrit

Kind regards

Olivier

A figure with caption is embedded in a Frame, which must be anchored
"As character". The paragraph holding the character must be "Figure" (I

2017-09-25 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi Dave, Hi all.

Allow me to suggest that the mismatch in rendering may be consequence of
a screen/pixel calibration or some distortion introduced by video
drivers between different computers.

At this moment I'd like to pick the ideas already on the table and get a
final production of the covers by knowledgeable community members.

Kind regards

Olivier

[libreoffice-documentation] XHP (help pages) code snippets for KDE editors

2017-10-02 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi

I made public in the wiki a set of XHP (help pages) code snippets for
KDE editors (KTextEditors) available in Kate and KDevelop.

The snippets, some simple, other more complex, will reduce typing effort
and possibly prevent errors when assigning attributes, notably the id=
attribute that must be unique in a xhp page.

Details in the wiki page:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/XHP_Code_Snippets_for_KDE_Editors

Enjoy !

Hello Jonathon

Of course, please do it at your earliest convenience. Note that this is
a long term task and for better results it will be nice to have
volunteers to step in to form the author team.

For Writer, Jean Weber is currently coordinating/updating the Guide
herself. Anyone interested, please join her in the effort.

Kind regards.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide 6.x

2017-11-28 Thread Olivier Hallot
Bom dia Andrea

Since release 4.1 (the last release the current Calc Guide is based on),
LibreOffice has incorporated many new features and drop/changed many
other **for Calc**.

The initial task is to name which feature was changed since release 4.1
and list in the wiki page (only for Calc).

The case you mention (Windows installer) is not related to LibreOffice
Calc, so it should not be in the list.

Each release note listed has a section on Calc. That is the primary
target for picking the features to write about.

Kind regards

Olivier

[libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide 6.x

2017-11-27 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi List!!

In the last meeting of 11/27/2017 I discussed with Jorge Rodriguez on
updating the Calc guide to a forthcoming release (likely after 6.0).

I liked Dave Barton's method (*) we adopted for the Getting Started
Guide 6.0, which consist in listing the features added and removed,
collected in a document for each release since 4.1, and up to the next
release (no deadline set). A team review and task assignment will follow.

Yes. You must read the chapter (Introducing Calc) and then look at all
release notes for Calc (4.2 to 6.0) to see if one of the changes applies
to the Chapter. If you think a change applies, please indicate in the
wiki page the subject of the change.

We will do for all chapters ('Entering, Editing, and Formatting Data',
'Using Charts and Graphs', etc..) and list the necessary updates to the
book.

For example, Release 5.4 introduced Pivot graphs, a feature that is not
described in the old book and will be target for writing a section with
description, examples, tips and warnings for pivot charts.

On a second step, the team will review all flagged additions/removals
and decide if it stands or not. This will give us the workload to update
the contents of the Guide. While reviewing, some of the team members can
pick a topic and update the chapter.

Well authors must know how to work with Calc. The most knowledgeable,
the best. As I explained to Xys, you must pick a chapter -say "Using
Charts and Graphs" - which explains how to create charts and graphs from
spreadsheet data, and check in the release notes what new feature for
Calc is related to the chapter contents.

Each feature listed in the release notes for Calc should land in one of
the Guide's chapter. For example, new calc function will go to chapter
"Formulas and functions". But the author team will review/discuss the
contents.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] LO60 GS - Chapter7

2017-11-29 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi Martin

The 2 files must be reviewed and merged and the result put in the
FeedBack folder.

If you merge and review chap 7, please add your initials in the filename
of the document.

The old files should be moved to the 'old draft' folder inside the
Feedback folder.

Note that the feedback folder files still wait for the latest addition
of the software, to begin soon.

Kind rgards

Olivier

I don't follow your comparison, since Excel uses Visual Basic for
Application and LibreOffice has its own BASIC, IDE and API for almost
any kind of macro need, and documentation on LibreOffice Basic exist.

https://documentation.libreoffice.org/en/english-documentation/macro/

I can't verify ATM if Excel supports Python, Java and Javascript macros,
but LibreOffice does.

But the point on missing documentation for Javascript, Python and Java
is valid and deserves attention. We the community, is resource-short but
we left our wiki open for those who wants to write a tutorial about
these original forms of writing macros. Javascript and Python are both
languages of great popularity nowadays.

[libreoffice-documentation] Adding collateral files in our new Help online

2018-05-15 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hello All

LibreOffice new Help system enabled the already existing
element that allows to open objects in the HTML help page. Objects can
be: embedded or external videos, audio, and also files with specific
MIME types.

From LibreOffice 6.1 and beyond, the help system now has support for
collateral files to help user in understanding the textual description
of the current page.

For example, a collateral file on pivot table will for sure help a new
user to start working with this powerful feature.

The documentation and L10N project invites you to help in two way:
* help us to translate some of these collateral files
* create meaningful collateral files in all areas of LibreOffice

A wiki page with much more details is available here, to give guidelines
for this new feature.

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/CollateralFiles

Please have a good reading on the wiki page and let's work to make our
help pages more user friendly.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: [The Document Foundation - Pootle server] Unit #145045203 (de/libo60_help)

2018-04-29 Thread Olivier Hallot
Hi Sophia

The User interface has 200 dpi as "standard", so the help text stands.

But the issue deserves a ticket in bugzilla to review if 200 DPI is
still a 2018 De-facto standard, and change the drop down list
accordingly before we change the help page.

cheers
Olivier

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: [The Document Foundation - Pootle server] Unit #149686860 (de/libo_help)

2018-04-29 Thread Olivier Hallot
HI Thomas

The link to the TDF wiki allows LibreOffice community to act in the
page. If in the future LibreOffice changes the feature, we want to be
able to write it in our wiki instead of AOO wiki. Besides, if some L10n
team member wish to write a page in his native language with his own
words, the TDF wiki is open to him, since the TDF wiki has a language
bar on the top.

About code lists, the How-to is also targeted at textbooks that teaches
programming, in wich one may want to have code listings excerpts
inserted in the text.

Cheers
Olivier
